I have the same experience as you. I’m wondering if it is regional? I’m in Europe so don’t overlap much with US usage, which is likely to be way higher

For what it’s worth, that was pretty obvious from the get go it wasn’t a realistic long term deal. I’ve been building all the libraries I hoped existed over the past 1-2y to have something neat to work with whenever the free compute era ends. I feel that’s the approach that makes sense. Take the free tokens, build everything you would want to exist if you don’t have access to the service anymore. If it goes away you’re back to enjoying writing code by hand but with all the building blocks you dreamt of. If it never goes away, nothing wasted, you still have cool libs

Yes, it’s pretty much the case, they are trying to scale as fast as they can from what I understand. Their growth over the last year has been just insane

Meta’s business is human attention, human connections, and all derived data. They can use AIs for their systems, but the question is why do they feel the need to spend billions on training and running their own frontier model

I never understood why meta decided to join the race. They don’t sell compute like Google or Microsoft. Why not let others do the hard work and integrate their LLMs in your systems if needed? I assume it’s because they have Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Thread data and feel they should be the ones using them for training, but it’s really not obvious how having a frontier AI lab benefits their business

Also, I would expect Iran cultural influence to continue to grow in its region. And they now have the strait toll as a new source of revenue.

Note that it is also a win for Israel, so far. They are still invading Lebanon with no plans to stop.

And a clear loss for the US who literally got nothing from that whole thing and triggered a massive global crisis

It could be both? But renting to a few for a really large amount of money would be very low effort for massive revenue, compared to starting new businesses

My understanding is no. But the definition of AGI isn’t that well defined and has been evolving, making the assessment pretty much impossible
