Here is a hard question - how could Stack Overflow succeed in a post-chatgpt eta? I mean obviously the new CEO and leadership has been total trash and has squandered their goodwill and user loyalty, but if I was CEO instead I don't know how I would save the ship.

Doubling down on how it was done in the 'good old days' probably wouldn't work because you would slowly bleed user to AI. Selling data to AI companies might work for a bit, but I would guess that the sales value of SO's data has quickly diminishing returns. So what is their path forward?

What I don't get is, how does this economically make sense? Isn't there a 100k fee for h1bs now? So 3k h1bs would cost $300 Mil... Before you even start paying salary

These numbers can get wonky fast. E.g. devs salaries in Ukraine are pegged to the dollar, so they get free raises as the exchange rates plummet. At the same time the cost of living in Ukraine was low before the war and only got lower. Oh and taxes are pretty low in Ukraine.

So I'm pretty sure Ukranian devs will end up with one of the top salary rates in all of Ukraine, but the externalities of that are large.

Absolutely fantastic. I actually laughed out loud a few times.

My only suggestion is make the shuffle animation shorter. At first I thought you were actually doing some server work when I clicked it and got concerned.

Also if you sell these in real life I would buy them.

Satellite images are not always real time. Also satellites can be affected by things like cloud cover.

I think thats pretty unlikely. The nuke areas are very far inland. Its impractical from a political point of view to put that many troops that far inland.

I think more likely they may seize Kharg island. It has direct strategic value (~95% of oil exports) and is a much simpler target. This is why they bombed it today - shaping operations.

One of the scary things is that not even this really works. Ignoring supply chain attacks, most people treat any client as effectively black box. When was the last time you read through the code of a messaging app? How do you know its safe? Maybe _you_ read through it, but 99% of people don't.

This is pretty standard. Usually the conditions are performance benchmarks, but may also include IPO. Typically its done in multiple tranches, e.g. 15B at the start, 5 more if you gain +500m users, 5 more if your profit exceeds X, and the rest for IPO (im over simplifying)

So they caught 2 very small cases and both cases were literally posting publicly about how they were doing a thing against the rules. Seems like they can't actually do anything if the culprits aren't total idiots?

Also what is this 5x payment penalty? What mechanism do they have to enforce this?

Do you really think a $30 hetzner host can sustain that level of traffic performantly? Don't get me wrong, I love hetzner, but I would be very surprised if the numbers work out there.

This is basically what I use tailscale & their magicdns feature for. I manage a few locally hosted jellyfin servers for myself and some family members, and its the same problem. I just added tailscale to them all and now I can basically do ssh parents.jellyfin.ts.net or inlaws.jellyfin.ts.net

I think they are still crazy r&d heavy, which it's not what investors like to hear. Investor pressure would make them stagnate from r&d side

On the other hand they would probably set things up in a way where they still control all the voting power

Has it? I think to challenge you have to show some comparable usage numbers. Its certainly an impressive technical feat to have this AI-based wiki project, but does anyone actually use it?

I mean that genuinely. I don't know any usage numbers for Grok. Is it even 1% of Wiki? Is it 50%? Is it more?
