I don't think that's what is being said. False flag, I presume in this scenario is to say were going to do something about the impending "AI threat" and to be associated with it. There is probably little threat, but to some investors this starts to look like perceived "AGI". Getting your name involved in the hype is marketing 101

In some scenarios veth is being replaced with netkit for a similar reason. Does this impact how you're going to manage this?

The cat is same for me. If it could pick the nightly dead rodent so I don't have to explain murder to the kids every day that would be great.

But ultimately what machine/device could show something? I appreciate not one reading could do this and it would have to be repeatable.

Yea agree. It's always something. Rays from the sun, a phone mast or something else. But what signals could be sent that are provable? Even if a ghost told you where to find the money. No one would believe you.

As I see it, it's all EMF (could be picked up from anywhere), no mass spectrometers, no actual science.

Hi HN,

Strange question, I know, but I feel this is a good place to ask the question: What would be classed as a "Ghost" detection?

I do not believe in anything; ghosts, deities, witches, skeletons with bows and arrows, zombies or anything else. But I'm obsessed with Ghost hunting YouTube channels. I know it's a load of nonsense, however, like Mulder, somewhere deep down "I want to believe". I understand it's all side effects of being human with good filmography that make this entertaining.

These hunters use some strange equipment, "Rem Pods", EMF testers, "Spiritboxes", etc. These are all easily debunked.

But it got me thinking; What would actually prove the existence of a ghost? What phenomena and what evidence would actually be required?

I don't think anything will ever be found as concrete evidence, but without knowing what the acceptance criteria is, we're ultimately always going to be looking in the wrong place.

PS. It's Halloween soon so thought this may be a fun thought experiment.

I live in rural very northern England. It’s incredible, clear with the naked eye. iPhone 14 camera with 3s exposure is out of this world (pun intended, but misleading)

I personally put some logic in the database especially when I’m expressing constraints. If it’s there it means another engineer can’t go directly to the database to bypass these constraints. (By logic, I’m meaning for example a transaction can only transition between states if it’s in a required state).

When it comes to debugging, versioning, deployment all these live alongside the code and are managed via migrations. Testing it is done as an integration test with the rest of the system.

It helps that we don’t use an ORM and deal with SQL everywhere.

This is one the most amazing articles on the internet! I find I become more interested in how it’s put together than the actual content, even though the article is the content. It blows my mind and should set a standard for how technical concepts should be delivered.

Just to highlight this a little bit more! I've used Namecheap for years (a lot of) and moved all domains my company owns over three years ago, and there is a lot of them. All went flawlessly and I have nothing but praise for the service it's amazing.

Only problem in the company settings is multiple users but other than that no issues.

I would imagine it's tiered. The Nginx servers at the front returning the 502 probably aren't the boxes running the code

Well played cockroachlabs. I find it awkward being an AWS user and knowing there products are something else under the hud, even when they do use the product name. It leads to user lock in, which is what they want. These addendum to licenses are what the world needs. Not sure it would work for certain products, like BSDs though, although they seem to get a lot more back from those who use them in products (Netflix is a good example)
