This will be what makes companies start pursuing legal action. Once it's not mostly people in poor countries who are pirating, companies will try to reclaim that lost revenue. I'm not sure if they can do anything about torrenting, but I would be surprised if TV devices like what you mentioned are still available in a couple years.

As I understand, those legislations are imposed on the exchanges, not the individual. The Neovim team doesn't have to do any extra work to verify the integrity of the bitcoin.

You're right about the taxes, but even after taxes it would still be more than worth your time to exchange for fiat.

Bitcoin is not real money nor legal tender in any country AFAIK, but I don't see how that makes it worthless. You could say the same thing about almost anything that isn't fiat, yet people liquidate non-fiat assets into fiat all the time. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that it should all be sent to a dead wallet.

In what country does a bitcoin donation need to go through an "anti money laundering check"? Also, you could pay a lawyer 100k to handle the taxes and accounting and you would still have 700k left over.

It matters the same way that calling a dog or a cat intelligent matters. It humanizes the thing, even if that isn't your intention. Right now that's not a big deal since most people agree that machines should not have rights, but I wouldn't take that for granted.

It does help, if the accusation is true. The fact that false accusations result in less genuine content implies that true accusations result in less disingenuous content. For better or for worse, social consequences do affect people's behavior on average.

Time complexity is something that applies to algorithms, and is determined analytically. I don't think it's useful to equivocate the definition with performance of implementations of algorithms determined through real world data. Both of these things are important, but they are not the same. The fact that they differ is not very surprising and does not necessarily mean that a misunderstanding has occurred.

It's inconvenient that the links are dead, but all the information needed to find the referenced information is still stored in the link. You just have to change the domain to a working instance.

I don't really see why this has to be a problem. If people are breaking the rules, you can just remove them. If you have the authority to remove the first person, then what does it matter if he brings his friends? Just remove them if they start causing problems. This just sounds like a post-hoc justification for removing someone simply because you don't like them. You are allowed to do that, of course, if it's your own platform. The problem is when people are appointed authority with the expectation that they will act without bias, in which case I believe that the threat of a potential nazi bar problem is an insufficient explanation for removing someone.

ggp isn't being dismissive or incurious. They say they are skeptical of the reasoning used in the science.org article, but are still open to the accepting the conclusion. Does being curious mean you aren't allowed to question anything? gp is probably being downvoted for dismissing ggp's concerns with a trite "please educate yourself" and not actually referencing anything to read. Telling someone else they are wrong and to go find evidence to support your own opposing view may technically be "encouraging curiosity" but it's certainly not curious itself.
