Dunno where the parent comment was referring to, but different countries have different standards. In Colombia the bus transit stations all have breathalyzer stations and the drivers have to pass the breathalyzer before starting their shifts. It was pretty wild to see as an outsider but completely unremarkable to everyone else.

Too true. I remember when I visited it took me a while to get used to this. I would ask my friend questions like “what happens if I fall off this campero/get bitten by one of these street dogs/clock somebody in the head playing rana/twist my ankle on this busted-out sidewalk? Who has the liability here?” and he would say “we don’t really have that here man”. Honestly it was a great time.

Read the whole sentence. He’s talking about the cost to make solar panels that can be deployed in space, not the efficacy of said panels.

TFA was pretty clear that this is an example which illustrates common issues in enterprise security. It even provides a handy table to map the similar patterns between this toy and a network appliance. No one’s arguing for stronger security in children’s toys, here.

Today a manager at my work asked all his teams including mine “please write up a report on how many engineers from your teams we could replace with AI”.

Surprisingly, the answer he got was “none, because that’s not how AI works”.

Guess we’ll see if that registers…
