But why using an encoder model instead of a BERT based model? For a pure classification that should be easier to train and work quite well

I hope Europe does this for real. I’m wondering how this privacy nightmare is eroding our standards so easily.
I certainly see the potential use of such - but the risks coming with such glasses at least in my opinion outweigh these uses..
Pleas, EU, ban this! Iirc there are already spy cams banned anyway in Germany, this should fall into the same category

This feels actually like a pretty safe bet for Google, they secure the compute in case it works (I doubt that the described volume will be available in the near future), while if SpaceX doesn’t manage to provide there is not much loss.
I see it more as another way of blowing up SpaceX valuation on paper…

Thank you for that - I’m definitely going to look into it.
I realize that I lost the fun in coding. I’m in a different career stage now as well, but just seeing this reminded me of how I started a long time ago implementing snake, learning about graphics mode, double buffering / page flipping etc.
Everything felt exciting and so close to really understanding what’s going on. And just seeing the blue text interface reminded me of how much fun that was…

I think this is a super important point. Working on ai I’m really wondering where this will actually end in the case of our media consumption, AI is being used to generate more engaging content, this will imply ai will be almost a requirement to stay visible, so more ai will be used. In the end little to no “real content” will make it through.
Will there be a moment where people will leave social networks to get “real content” again?
Will that be safe from AI optimization then?
Are we seeing the start of the demise of social media?

I’m seriously getting worried that we use models without openly discussing any potential shortcomings they have. We should somewhere have a list of models and their issues.

> Intellectually many want this. But the feed shortcuts our reptile brain and gains more engagement minutes / day.
I’m not sure if that’s actually a “shortcut” to the reptile brain and it’s just about “I have to scroll more to get stuff I’m interested in. At least for me it feels like that and it causes me to use these social media things far less.
For me it feels more like intermittent rewards vs full rewards at once.
Obviously for the ad-industry the intermittent rewards are more useful, that’s why we can’t have nice things
