It seems like it would be great for any kind of voiceover work or any recorded training or presentation. If you want to correct a mis-speak or add some information, instead of re-recording the entire segment, you could seamlessly update a few words or sentences.

Your job is now to find a new job. Push as hard as you can on job searching. Dial down the effort you are putting into your current job.
You absolutely should not stay where you are. You are also extremely unlikely to be able to make any positive changes there, the company product and needs “are what they are.”

I did eventually show a teacher and they were shocked. Their older eyes had no way of focusing on the text and they could barely tell it was anything but a sheet with grey lines.

Whe I was in high school I had plenty of dull classes to sit through. I’m old enough that there were no phones and laptops to keep entertained.
My parents had a laser printer for their business. I realized that it had a very high DPI and also very little ink bleed. I started printing whole books I downloaded at the smallest font size that I could managed to still read, just a few point. I removed line breaks and printed out whole books on a page or two. I found it incredible how much tiny text I could fit on a page.
In class I would read with a little half folded sheet of paper hidden in a notebook. Sci-fi, Russian lit, biographies, classics. I was never caught, but it’s bizarre to think back that I was reading Crime and Punishment while the rest of the class was learning fake American history propaganda.

These apps have sounded like an incredible cesspool for a long time, though I have been recently hearing they are even worse.
Honestly, I think the very concept is broken from the start. Neurotypical people do not need to use online dating or hookup apps. In fact, it robs much of the fun out of the experience. Meeting people in person, seeing how they interact with you, with friends, with others, how well they pick up on signals and how they make you feel and letting that pheromonal magic work is how our species has been doing these things from the start.
The normies should polish back up their social graces and head back to the bar and leave the online dating for the folks for whom it really is the best option. If we rob the apps of their mass market appeal, the profit model can collapse and online dating can go back to the niche it belongs in.

I don’t think you’ll find many people on HN that are too concerned. On the other hand, I truly pity aspiring devs in school now. The drawbridges on the profession seem like they are getting raised and I don’t know how an intern or junior can add enough value to cut their teeth in the face of things like Devin.

I’m not sure what the use case is outside of having real time information about the world as a search replacement.
For example, if a major event or discovery happened, the model would know about it once a critical mass of news stories and discussions had been generated online. You’d probably be looking at a few days before the content accumulated to the point where it would affect the model weights, which encode all human knowledge ever digitized, so some single news article in a training set of trillions of tokens is not enough.
If you want a long term memory of user interactions, long context and RAG seems to do the job nicely as a single fact can be pulled out of a context length of millions of tokens.

Reddit seems to have well and truly jumped the shark. Most of their communities are barely moderated wastelands. Bot activity is absolutely rampant. It had a golden age, but I have no idea how this survives in the post LLM world.

Because it’s not a helicopter! It’s a fixed wing aircraft, making it very much not a helicopter.
It would also be reasonable to rename an aircraft class if it was significantly different from other aircraft. For example, an electric, vertical takeoff fixed wing aircraft that doesn’t require a pilot could be reasonably different from airplanes and helicopters to warrant a new name.

I don’t think we are at a plateau. We may have fed a large amount of text into these models, but when you add up all other kinds of media, images, videos, sound, 3D models, there’s a castle more rich dataset about the world. Sora showed that these models can learn a lot about physics and cause and effect just from video feeds. Once this is all combined together into multimodal mega models then we may be closer to the plateau.

This feeling has been accelerating for me. I get the sense that state actors are ramping up their use of LLM powered bots. Hacker news is a great place still, but Reddit has become a void except for some of the more niche subs. I also see more and more AI images being passed off as normal content. Soon video will be the same. Paid influencers were bad enough it at least the content creators were humans with their own minds and creativity. Very rapidly there will be nothing human left on the internet and I’ll have to go back to the fleshy smelly real world.
