It's worth keeping in mind that modern ARM isn't really all that _RISC_, number of instructions in these chips is starting to approach x86_64 territory pretty fast

AFAIK there isn't currently a direct competitor, but your best bet is to setup your own LLM gateway, and add various providers to it (beyond the frontier labs, there are the open-weights hosters, like baseten, fireworks, etc)

It's a pain to manage though, and that's what makes openrouter's service valuable to be fair

OpenAI's strategy lead made a post on X advocating for the banning of Chinese models in the wake of Kimi K3's release.

To be clear, YCombinator et al are advocating for them to remain unbanned.

I'm usually one to say the same thing, but unless you're doing something that specifically hits instruction cache hard, for most productivity workloads (compiling, video editing, etc) you're better off foregoing the cache and getting a CPU with more threads.

The thing is, it's possible to call a spade a spade without resorting to ad hominem. Andrew's post would've been more effective if he focused more on the Rust port being for marketing, and the shortcomings of Bun's Zig implementation.

Instead, the first half of it solely consists of personal attacks.

I think it depends on your use case. For my personal projects (a mix of webdev & some Rust desktop apps) it's honestly very close to Opus 4.8 (which I use in my day job).

I don't feel like I'm missing out after cancelling my personal Claude subscription, whereas I used to feel that way a few months ago.

I'll be real with you, I wouldn't make a throwaway account to talk about a bad company policy if I enjoyed my job.

I'd recommend looking for another, the job market is nowhere near as bad as people claim (at least for non-junior positions).
