I am not optimistic. What we learned from history is that despite all warnings and good intentions, governments, corps and citizens will make every possible mistake before we finally arrive at another precariously stable situation. Experts are famously bad at predicting the outcomes of new technologies/policies even in times of relatively low upheaval. And plans have a way of producing many significant unintended consequences. This is not going to prevent people with strong opinions from asserting that they know exactly what needs to be done. And in the rush to do something many things will certainly be done. We are screwed at least for a while.

I believe that the “thought process” of humans is just another automatic process albeit more sophisticated because it is running on a far more powerful processor that has evolved over millions of years and was honed by many more years of fine tuning in a complex social system. The difference is only a matter of degree.

looks like a screw up in some farm(s)/processing plant(s), possibly exacerbated by heat and rain. It is going to be hard to identify the source. If I was in America, I would stop consuming fresh produce (it is really hard to ensure parasite-free produce no matter who you wash it). Wondering if this has already spread to Canada!

This was a bone that Smith threw to the extreme right (by Canadian standards) wing of her base. Even Quebec, with its stronger claim to nationhood, found it hard to disentangle itself from Canada, so it is unlikely that Alberta will succeed. But, it will still pay a price like Quebec did; businesses and people do not like secession politics, and the infighting is likely to be bruising. Smith's conservative party, as well as the federal conservatives (also led by a unpopular Albertan, may also pay a price (arguably they have already did with defections of their MPs to the Liberal party). So, all in all, this looks like another unforced error by the Canadian right.

I recall reading that ~30% of humans have evidence of toxoplasmosis. But, it is unclear whether that is harming their intelligence. Statistically, cat owners have higher IQ than dog owners (pls do not shoot the messenger unless you want to provide further evidence of the validity of this observation).
