this is well intentioned but bad advice for people with shoulder issues. The shoulder should not be put under load such as weight lifting.

I would recommend doing band work and calisthenics and also highly recommend analyzing your kinetic chain and form in any activity you do and figure out how to reduce shoulder arm and wrist for any force generation in sports such as tennis, golf, throwing etc.

After playing college tennis and developing bad shoulder issues with MRI indicating that surgery would be recommended. Two years prior my high school friend had had the same surgery and ultimately developed a opioid dependence during the crises and subsequently died of an overdose after 18 months of spiraling.

I ultimately was able to attribute the onset of flare ups to weeks where I was hitting a lot of serves and at first simply instituted a “pitch count” and later studied my form and discovered that I was not loading as much as I should have been from the base of my kinetic chain and a lot of that load was being put on my shoulder.

About 12 years later and I’ve recently switched to pickleball (no over head serve) and jokingly refer to myself as a tennis refugee.

I’be been similarly interested and long ruminating about whether it would be possible to achieve something similar to this in the restaurant industry. For example to have a non profit operating a franchise of a fast food location and instead of having thw 20% corporate tax rate and profit going towards retained earnings and dividends to instead be reinvested in the mission which would be better, more nutritious ingredients to better healthily feed your local customers and two to provide the staff a livable wage. Like you, I keep turning it over in my head and contemplating it rather passively as it’s way outside of my lane of Data Engineering, but I’d like to think that the market would eventually identify this as viable if it at all would be. With the ever looming fear of layoffs and future of future employment in writing software I keep thinking about that scene of the firing in “Up In The Air” where the guy they let go had always dreamt of being a chef and was finally able to pursue it after getting laid off from his high paying job that he had come to hate. If I were a corrupt official in one of the departments I would simply use a vpn and submit a bunch of data for my specific specialty all across the country and then slightly fewer in my own department to drive demand and set market expectations

Veganism is so polarizing because on some level I think most if not all people understand that they are philosophically correct and that veganism is thus the morally right thing to do and those (like me) who still refuse to do it must live with themselves and their immoral choices every time they are confronted by a vegan or reminded of the feasibility of veganism

How is this HIPPA compliant? Please tell me there’s an aspect of HIPPA that requires sensitive data to be only accessed and processed by Americans on shore. You’d think the multiples we pay on health care for worse outcomes would at least be supporting our own domestic middle class with this sort of basic back office white collar work

Yeah this seems to me similar to how the mortgage backed security risk concentration occurred leading up to the global financial crisis. Whereby the risk from exposure to low grade / risky single mortgages was eliminated via diversification but the diversification was simply packaging all of the risky MBS’s together and in no way diversified or de-risked the entire portfolio

Didn’t anticipate that my day would be bookended by relating to and empathizing with the plight of the elevators while I wait for one in a tall corporate building.

My dad is an English professor and wrote his first manuscript turned book on a typewriter much to his editor’s dismay in the late 1990s. He used to compel me to type my Christmas wishlist / letter to Santa on it as well perhaps with the added benefit of reducing its length.

This and not being able to divide by 0 in math always drove me up the wall in school. Encountering a god level difficulty unsolved problem in the first 5 minutes of discussion around the basics of the field and then shrugging and continuing to build castles of complexity atop the seemingly rickety foundation irrationally irked me.
