I think I disagree with your premise.

If china as a state wanted to do something nefarious they would just do it. They have no interest in hacking regular folk's bank accounts. It's the criminal rings (around the world) who are interested in doing so and LLMs (and other types of AI models) can 100% help them scale their operations. I built a voice cloning app last summer with GPT4.5. It needed 5 seconds of sample to clone someone's voice and it was shocking that it was possible. I showed it to my parents and we decided to have a code word in case of emergencies. I told them not to believe if anybody called and asked for money pretending it was me.

You'd be surprised how many senior citizens fall for these traps every year.

Working on 2 things at the moment, both fully open source:

- navigation without GPS and Internet

- GIS with tokenized raster layers so that LLMs could easily talk to the maps

It's the scale problem (both speed and access) with LLMs. Don't you think the barrier to entry for hacking has become lower with LLMs?

Agreed! I think it will have to be a better version of the nuke NPT. Something like every country's government keeps a Mythos like model and that's it. We stop there. Since it's a model; the most powerful country could create as many copies of the model as the countries ready to sign the treaty. But that's it. No more development after that. Somehow countries will have to come together to work this out. What's the solution otherwise? These companies won't stop at any freaking cost.

I wonder if there would be an equivalent of Non proliferation treaty like Nukes?

I know it sounds crazy - but if there's even 0.1% chance that some models are so good that they can be used to hack into people's bank accounts - I, as the government, would not want that model to be publicly accessible. I would also request other countries to come to the table and sign this NPT(for AI).

Public will still have access to smaller models (like guns etc) up to Opus 4.8 etc but anything bigger than that is sooo good that it's dangerous. Nuclear also has benefits but the governments consider the worst when making policies rather than the best.

I am not touting Mythos as the god model but I wonder if the policy will move in this direction.

Not today, may after the next 3-4 breakthroughs. One thing that people don't realize is that the AI they use today is highly highly subsidized bc of the capex that has gone into it. Even if people collaborated together - will not be able to raise billions of dollars that are needed.

These are still very very (and very) early days of the modern AI and there are so many changes that are gonna happen. It's possible that all the frontier labs of today won't exist in a few years.

or if they are a lazy human - they'd think this model is too strict, let's just review with haiku so that i can tell my manager "it's done". haiku might catch things or not.

i'd say it's an okay attempt from the malwares' creator side. but it can be caught easily with a prompt change.

This is my feeling - Opus 4.6 was pretty good, 4.7 was degraded in quality, 4.8 further got degraded and Fable goes back to 4.6 + somewhat better. Is it anthropic playing us by giving us a not so good model in last 2 releases and then releasing a better model before the IPO?

They're vibemaxxing. But it's clear that AI is not going anywhere. It's going to become better and better.

finally Siri and Apple intelligence are getting some much needed updates. Most of the stuff shown was already open source and had been achieved under 16GB of ram so it is timely.

It's only good at churning out reliable boilerplate. If you want a genuinely good frontend - human creativity still beats AI any day today. Sure it's helpful but I think frontend devs will land just fine on their feet. At least, I hope.

I don't know how else to say this but LLMs are just word calculators. They are becoming better for sure but at this point even Claude 4.8 is absolute shit at any complex task in a not so common field. I have been working on terrain contour matching algorithms for the last few days and, oh boy are the predictions about AI taking over the world wrong. Its the highest level of bullshit I have ever come across in my life. I ended up writing 100% of the actual algorithm myself. It's a productivity mess.

Agreed about cellphone towers providing accurate position, but not with enough precision and highly dependent on the number of towers in the vicinity.

What i started building is for a highly unlikely scenario which is ; no internet + no GPS + no cell tower.

To anyone who works at anthropic : I recently downgraded from Max to Pro out of frustration. Last few weeks my token(usage) burn was just too fast and I couldn't explain it because my actual usage was less than the last few months. I ended up thinking it's probably a bug that you guys shipped. The above article makes me think that it's probably claude who shipped the bug and your human missed it in their review.
