in a weird way - this shows how much of a premium there's with cloud computing, while also showing how much computation power is in consumer devices.

WhatsApp business api is in a weird situation.

the poor countries use WhatsApp mostly due the fact that sms was costly.

so you're tryna to monetize against businesses serving poorer users. yes - they maybe more in number but margins are razor thin.

the richer countries where margins are higher - sms, email, etc are cheaper & permission less. so eventually most providers most settling on email & sms/rcs.

that xkcd is always funny - but there's a white lie in it e.g on motorcycles in areas where you are allowed to ride median. there's instances of drivers actively tryin' to kill you by swerving onto the median when they see you comin'.

ublock origin lite + adguard on safari are pretty decent.

however hetzner vps offerings are lacking in North America.

once they offer equivalent offerings - they offer in EU in NA - then some people will go to. OVH or DO etc.

once mongo rewrote their engine - it's performant, scales & easy to run. seems a lot of devs got burnt by the early issues don't consider it all together.

its probably the easiest database to run at scale. run & forget. you just have to do a little more work on the data modeling part before you write your application i.e consider your query patterns.

I us pg. not that I know much about database internals, besides the 'b-tree' stuff we learned in college.

I don't know how the pg scaling story gets fixed unless certain things are rewritten. that's my fear of going all in pg.

mysql has vitess etc & even upgrades are easier. though pg is more extensible.

what are the 'slower' go to market channels that you've seen produce sustainable results also producing sustainable businesses. not the come fast, die fast kind ?

you release a confidential one - if you don't wanna release info that might empower competitors or you have bad numbers that might spook investors.

if you have a 'moat' then you wouldn't worry about releasing a draft S1. I assume OpenAI has neither.

maybe it's the peculiarity of the tech industry to make it seem they're doing something entirely new & different in the world.

how did unproven, fringe ideas get funded before the 1960s ?

you either took a loan, some rich patrons put some money or you were financed by vendor financing. most of these terms were not humiliation rituals. they were built on trust & knowing each other.

the bad & good were funded that way whether merchant expeditions, slavery, colonialism, steam engines.

you didn't have Venture capital. & soon enough venture capital will disappear altogether.

people tend also to confuse latency vs speed.

if u have lower latency <25ms & a 25Mbps .. your connection feels faster than having 100ms latency + whatever speed.
