because suburbs and housing models like it designed around a closed loop even some apartment building which have high population density encourage social isolation.

compare a 'luxury' Florida apartment vs the old New York apartments built in the 1800s. the NY apartments have narrow stairs, one way in.

likewise dense / small cities / villages in either africa/europe etc force more natural social interaction.

even for friends - easier to host friends when they can easily walk to your home & they don't have to drink & drive.

so blaming tv, social media, video games etc doesn't get to the root of the matter.

which in short means the real-gdp has gone down since the 1970s.

some people will talk about efficiency etc.

but one true metric more than easily fakeable GDP numbers is electricity production and electricity consumption per capita.

a growing economy simply uses more electricity / energy - to move people, goods, get more work done etc.

classic aggregation theory to create a monopoly.

the only way to prevent such things from happening is e-commerce is spread across non-platform channels but independent ones e.g woo commerce etc where a seller runs and hosts their own shop, then maybe go to semi-platforms such as shopify etc that don't aggregate everything on one storefront.

because sellers are reliant on amazon bringing in shoppers, unlike say woo commerce & shopify - then yeah amazon feels rightly so that they need to take 50% margins on a seller's item.

the same thing plays out everywhere where some producer is reliant on someone bringing in the buyers - uber, Spotify, apple App Store.

but this is built on firecracker vm. while Cloudflare workers are built on v8 isolates. at the moment Cloudflare workers have no equivalent. Deno was the only one trying to do the same.

same reason why bank accounts are now getting closed for not being in 'use' now.

I have lost two bank accounts to these shenanigans cz I moved countries.

now I just view bank accounts as temporal - I have them for a period of time. & at a certain point in time in they disappear like snapchat photos.
