In the past it was more of a race of companies trying to get "there" first, not anymore, we live in an interesting age where people feel constantly controlled and everyone is exhausted about tech in general.

Linux gives you that middle finger peace of mind like saying "I will never be controlled anymore and ever again" ..funny there is a big Warez article on the HN homepage at the same time of this discussion, that's exactly what it feels like to finally come out on the other side legally.

People took decades to finally being liberated from Windows and Microsoft and many like me will never be controlled that way again and while I respect Apple more than Microsoft for a lot of things in the end it's just another corporation that wants to greedily take your life energy and precious time and enslave you again.

They are creating the best hardware at the worst possible time, but it's good for competition so it's all good.

Linux is actually exciting contrary to Apple as a company, their hardware, their prices and macOS in general.

And I’m saying this as a Windows user too, I will NEVER buy a Mac but I’ve used Linux on and off for 30+ years.

For the past 5-10 years Linux has been the only excitement I’ve had personally.

There was another one too at some point called MSMG Toolkit (IIRC) that worked wonders but who knows what happened to that.

After 30+ years of using every OS I just don't want to deal with an OS that constantly fights with you just to try to make it usable, unattended.xml is MY path of least resistance, configure once, check/update every now and then, no need to learn new tricks.

https://wpd.app works well too for extra telemetry and https://github.com/builtbybel/privatezilla still works with Windows 11 but again autounattend.xml works magic.

Been using Linux on and off for 30+ years and I’ve always always had second thoughts about using anything outside the main 3-4 distros, and I mean forks, blends etc. let alone vibe coded distros, even *buntu feels like a stretch.

I really like DHH’s enthusiasm and what he’s trying to do but I will never touch that “distro”.

Debian/Devuan, Fedora/RHEL/Alma/Rocky, Arch/Artix, FreeBSD/OpenBS/NetBSD are all anyone will ever need.

You feel more adventurous? NixOS, Gentoo, Slackware, Void.

That’s it. No forks, no blends.

I keep Xebian and LMDE ISOs in my flash drive to show people but I don’t personally use even those.

People jumping all around these new distros that only seem to change a wallpaper without knowing the basics is a bad choice, like the first comment says, isn’t this the reason you wanted to move away from Windows in the first place?

Just take your time and enjoy learning, they are all so simple today compared to decades ago it’s crazy.

Now they cost like a used car, everyone buys $1000+ iPhones without batting an eye, insane.

This one is $2000, I wouldn't get it if I had a billion on principle.

Flame wars used to be about distros and code and now it’s about how people think and opinions.

Everyone needs to go outside for a second, smell the flowers, hear the birds chip and calm down.

I login and use it a little different for work but I separate sessions and leave them open longer until I'm done and still everything clears when I close, sometimes I remove the checkbox but I clear at the end of the day.
