How is this any different than refusing to unlock the phone? It just seems you've added unnecessary extra steps.

You can buy an Oyster card with cash and top it up with cash from machines at almost every station.

It's still possible to travel somewhat anonymously this way.

You can still use paper tickets if you're worried about your Oyster card being de-anonymised. But as you say, that is not the primary way of travel anymore.

Makes me think the world has gone mad, even as an on-off coffee drinker myself.

Far too much technology is encroaching into our lives. I know this is for the sake of an advert, but it feels absurd.

My late great uncle was in the RAF during WW2 and was at the liberation of Belson.

I remember him saying that the RAF buried Spitfire engines, so it's definitely a real practice.
