Oh I am terribly sorry, did not know Anthropic was formed as a a “Good Company”. Which changes everything ever.
Snark aside, maybe I’m too pessimistic and you are correct on this. But.. doesn’t that mean we are completely fucked? If they don’t have any ulterior motive and they truly are panicking.. We should start packing.

> which they clearly think is bad
These are companies with huge amounts of money invested in them. Their main responsibility is to their investors. If building better models (or making more money from the models they already have) would increase returns, they would do it. So they clearly can’t do it right now.
Climate change hasn’t stopped the oil industry, and concerns about forever chemicals haven’t stopped the chemical industry. Companies don’t usually give up profitable opportunities just because they might be harmful or kill us all in the long term..

> As well they should.
Assuming there is no pressing reason and the wells are dormant, why would it be a good idea to destroy options? I did not fact check these claims though. Maybe there are other reasons to close them. But if it is solely do remove them from equation altogether, it is stupid.

I mean their track record when humans are in the loop is not better either. Decisions on hidden downgrades, subscription usage restrictions, account bans, neverending dance around model availability on subscription plans. Keeping CC closed source. Not releasing a single open model. BURNING BOOKS..
OpenAI feels like a bastion of competent management and development compared to this shit show and they have a psychopath on the helm. This is an achievement by itself.

> So many developer-hostile things lately.
It is extraordinary how they managed to fuck up all of their goodwill with all these unnecessary stuff. They truly are a hostile company if I have ever seen one. And they had the entire developer community cheering for them a couple months ago.
I hope they fail in their mission, whatever that is. Because I'm sure it's no benefit to anyone ever.

I don't think it is a big of a problem as it looks. Most of the dust / sand issues were on the earlier models and were related to the hinge mechanism itself.
My Fold 4 at some point started making grinding noises that raise ones blood pressure. I guess it is now solved as the new hinges are waterproof and stuff.
The screen does not really fold completely does it? All hinge mechanisms have a way to allow the screen to have a smooth arc on the fold point, not rubbing on itself. I've not used a foldable since that model so these are second hand info.

I once had a fairly popular answer to a general question that included the word “mankind.” Someone changed it to “humankind,” another person changed that to “humans,” and eventually someone removed it altogether for no apparent reason. Then even more pointless edits followed. It became far too much hassle for absolutely no benefit.

Someone here recently said, “Dishonesty is a core value of Anthropic,” and that aligns with my experience of the company as a user. All their talk about AI safety since the company’s inception now feels like pure theater, given their conduct in everyday operations. It’s a shame how quickly their image has deteriorated.

I agree the general premise but do not agree when it comes to browser support.
I feel like we should be building for the 98% or even 95% and force the remaining to upgrade their browsers. I've built for the IE6 - IE11 era for a painful and long time. I do not give a shit if you want to use a 3 year old browser at this point. Go look at a blank screen.

I was hoping for some kind of a Siri LLM API for providers to implement so that I'd be able to use Gemini, ChatGPT, maybe Openrouter, SELF HOSTED or whatever the fuck I want. Given that Apple itself does not really have a horse in the LLM race, it made sense.
Say the ChatGPT app would provide the functionality to the system and I'd allow a scary popup saying "these guys will own you, sure?".. I guess they are going all in into Gemini instead.
But I don't want Gemini..
