Wikimedia Foundation has around $350M of founds while the website expenses has been estimated around ~$10M per year. It could be run for more than 25 years without any money.

The Wikimedia Foundation manager takes $400k as salary.

Books are curated content that has been reviewed by editors and are usually well written. Better if the books is printed by a relevant publishing company and even better if the book has been translated which usually means is relevant. Also there are so many books and so many topics to read that is impossible to get bored.

Articles are easy to produce and publish, there's no review and often are just another way to do self/brand promoting without real content. Good blogs are difficult to spot and to keep track. At the same time articles can give you the sense of a trend and what people are thinking, and the point of view of a niche of people.

So to give a time-quality ratio; socials < blogs/articles < books

Unfortunately users reviews are generally pretty useless. And the experts reviews are absent or difficult to find online, because there's not a real incentive for them to share it.

I came from an European country, a not heavy-populated area, where a lot of feedback are shared in the community. Before buying something, is helpful asking friend, relatives or colleagues about their previous experience and what model/brand they advise. I think is a great benefit that I missed when I went to live in other countries. There's less feedback sharing abroad and most of the people rely on: the same brand, the price of the product, the advice for shopping center staff (which are often biased). If I ask to some friend about a car mechanic or a restaurant advice, he would have no preference.

1. don't use Kindle since it lock you to use a proprietary format made by Amazon. Use a Kobo for example 2. buy ebook in a open format like .epub 3. buy physical copies as an alternative

Remember that the important thing is to support book writers and publishers in their job to bring us stories and information. Doesn't matter if you use Amazon or other stores.

What type of queries are they generating? For what purpose are querying Marginalia? Scraping and filling internal search engines?

I would maybe trying to investigate why are querying your search engine. Is for the search results? Maybe from there you can create and sell an API service. Is for the wiki? Is for research purpose?

I would love to see some data, raw or with some behavior derived from it.

Hey, here is the author of the accent package. It was my first extension that wrote after 1 week on starting using Emacs. ELisp is really great!

MacOS menu for accented characters is must have for me and I cannot understand why other OS are not adopting it.

48MB? Nowadays laptop are sold with 500GB SSD and minimum of 16GB or RAM. What matters are the performances. The JVM outperforms all the electron and JS app out there. I would much prefer to download a 300MB app than use those slow JS web apps running on top of the browser.

I doubt anything interesting will came out from that expensive series. They're doing it for the money, not for the product. And that as always be a clear indicator of a low quality product.

- github, or even better sourcehut as a repo + hosting - buy a domain for $10/y - hugo, jekyll (org-mode for pro)

I love org-mode, but the lack of mobile is really a wall for me. I need the flexibility to add notes in a second from my mobile (without emacs server etc).

I switched to Bear atm, just because has the sync between all devices.

I’m the only one that saw Loom having access to the webcam in the article?

Loom can open your webcam and record you audio if they want…

So grammarly is offering this service thanks to the cloud and thanks to the data transmitted over internet. We cannot do nothing else that trust this companies. We should maybe ask to our government to check and validate how our data are treated by companies and if the privacy is respected.

I mostly worked with Javascript and Python, never touched Java. Depends what you do. But generally no, Java knowledge is not required.
