Aardvark to me. Similar snout, long ears. They were probably in the southern reaches of Egypt.

With regard to differences that could be explained by stylisation and the lack of familiarity due to it's rarity in most of Egypt.

Top loaders are higher capacity and cost less. And open air drying is preferable to machine drying.

That's a problem. That the Guardian doesn't mention the regulation and doesn't give us the wording of the advertisement.
