I hope this horrible time will soon be over when cheaper NPUs come available from more hardware companies, and also when model size get optimized down further.

I wonder what hyperscaled compute farms and models will be good for at that running cost when most AI needs can be fulfilled by on-prem and on-device hardware and models. Probably only customer left are big governments. So in the end the tax payer has to pay for those billions of investments by the AI cartel.

At its current iteration the AI tech market is not economically sustainable, not for the other markets outside the AI economy, and most deadly not even for the main target customers or AI tech companies themselves. There have been several news of companies having overspent their token budget month after month. The hardware monopolist and his network of buddy companies can determine the token price as freely as they want, there are no competitors, their only "competitor" is when people stop using AI alltogether.

They are useless if RAM prices are this high. $800 laptops with maximum 8GB are currently the norm, Windows 11 can't run on them decently. No matter how fast the SoC is with overpriced RAM they are slow. Systems that can make good use of them with 64-128GB are not affordable anymore thanks to Nvidia and co. This is a smokescreen. They'll probably sell them packaged as compute modules anyway.

This is a big deal for gulf states, another revenue stream in a the post-fossil world for them. Makes a transition more attractive for them.

It's not actually, people outside tech are even more anti-AI than here. Tbh I think AI submissions at least get really hyped here by the system at least.

Outside the tech bubble people either don't care or already associate AI with increased prices.

No. Because no single man should have so much power: a person as a single point of failure, no-one is smart enough to think of everything and everyone has blindspots in their reasoning, awareness and wisdom. Billionaires especially because people around them become sycophants. Billionaires don't talk to regular people anymore, they are in an elitist bubble out of touch with other people's reality.

Well to be fair AI scaling and large compute are the real problem. It's just another enshittification scheme. And data centers are the black holes that suck the industry dry like a vacuum.

This is huge news if true for evaluating soil experiments on Mars. They could give false positives for life if they only look for metabolic products.
