this sounds like an absolutely wholesome story where multiple strangers donate their attention and time to help somebody who was not a victim in any way but just merely lost.
I wouldn't want my wife lost in Compton either but if the good guys outnumbered the bad guys by Inf% then it must not really be that bad. What would happen if it were Kinshasa instead of Compton.

This looks solid! We are also going for a single-executable (typescript/bun in our case), but we are specifically going after agent monitoring in the first version. We think people shouldn't have to send all of their agent conversations to a vendor like DataDog or Sentry.

It doesn't take very long (because compute and storage are separate in most of them) but good lord does it get expensive. Every time you click that upgrade button you are doubling your cost. It's really painful when you have a spiky workload that is performing fine like 95% of the time but you are watching the p99 and need to double the cost of a very expensive infra component, only to improve the experience of the heaviest 4% of your workload. This is to say nothing of the gambit you then have to play with reservations/prepays.

Yes, you nailed it. Old data is important sometimes, like when a problem has been identified and investigated, but most workloads are looking at the current state of the system. So we keep the hot data cached locally (not nas/ebs) and s3 is always the source of truth. DuckDB over parquet files on a local ssd is fast enough you don’t need a traditional database.
We are using DuckLake with a “lakehouse” architecture for the observability agent.

At Cronitor we use ClickHouse, but we're leaving it behind for our next product and building directly on Parquet and DuckDB.
We think the future of observability in the AI age is self-hosted directly on NVMe backed by cheap and limitless object storage. I don't want to send customer conversations and agent thoughts to a giant multi-tenant borg SaaS database like Sentry or BetterStack.

You might just be taking people too literally.
I've heard the same thing -- if they take a job they will lose money. What they really mean is that if they take a job (trade time for money), they will lose some of the pension they have already earned. This is a real economic loss (even if they might have a few more bucks at the end of the week) to say nothing of their lost time.
