basically IT work. trying to "refactor" my home network, from wiring to the VLANs. created quite a few VLANs with plans for the future that I no longer remember and probably don't need anymore. and the wiring is very much spaghetti.

I didn't like any of the car maintenance apps I've tried, so I'm building my own. simpler, can be run locally (I run it in a k3s cluster). I don't think I have any stand-out features for it right now, or planned for the near future, but it works well for my purposes.

I review even before they implement. My typical workflow for anything major is to ask for a plan and an overview of the steps to execute. This way I can read the plan, mull over it, make a few changes myself. And then when I'm ready I go through the steps with claude code, usually in fresh sessions.

I keep hearing about how they're "really good" now, but my personal experience has been that I've always had to clear sessions and give them small "steps" to execute for them to work effectively. thankfully claude seems really good at creating "plans", though. so I just need claude code to walk through that plan in small chunks.

as a wannabe "car enthusiast", I'd happily buy a fun EV if one existed for a reasonable price. the xiaomi su7 for example looks incredible, and I'd jump on that if sold here in the US in a heartbeat.
but for the majority of people, yeah, I don't think they really care either way. if we had the infrastructure and EVs were sold at the prices that people are seeing for the Chinese EVs, I think they'd switch away from ICE fairly easily.

> Ford seems not doing anything
honestly it really does seem that way. the impression I'm getting is farley just wants to make as much money as he can off of whatever's left of ford and leave. I mean, what kind of leader goes "wow I drove my competitor's car and it's freaking great, I give up!"?
compare this with toyota's CEO. they easily could've just coasted on corollas, camrys and RAV4s forever. nope, here's a new beastly supercar on the way!

ford in particular seems to only ever give up on everything. they couldn't compete on compacts, so they killed the focus and fiesta. they couldn't compete on EVs, so they killed those too. next thing you know toyota will start carving away at the F-150's market share and they'll kill that, too.

I feel like I have to be strategic with my use of claude code. things like frequently clearing out sessions to minimize context, writing the plan out to a file so that I can review it more effectively myself and even edit it, breaking problems down into consumable chunks, attacking those chunks in separate sessions, etc. it's a lot of prep work I have to do to make the tool thrive. that doesn't mean it's useless, though.

> Grooming and style: you can, nonetheless, choose to date yourself with your clothing and overall presentation, or not. This can be overdone and make you stand out “trying too hard” not to be old. But there’s a world of middle ground.
for the longest time, I've resisted the zoomers' attempt to bring back 90s/early 00s fashion with oversized shirts and baggy pants, hopelessly clinging to my millennial sensibilities (I like my fitted shirts and skinny jeans, dammit). then one day I just said screw it and bought new oversized shirt and it kinda grew on me.
I'm not going full zuckerberg with the gold chain and whatnot, though.

I have NeoVim open on one terminal and just the console on another. I just run the linter/auto-formatter/compiler directly on that second terminal after I write in the first. if I need to remember a type/method/class, the default suggestions (ctrl+n in INSERT mode) or a simple grep are usually enough.
is this the most efficient way to code? probably not. but it involves zero yakshaving, which I no longer have the patience for.

we recently traveled to Kaga and that's where I saw what appeared to be the "aging population" in full effect. it was a pretty big city around the Kagaonsen station, and it did look like it _used_ to be bustling and full of life at _some_ point. now, you can drive around and you'll barely see anyone around. if you do see someone, it's likely someone at least 50.
though the caveat is that maybe we visited at the wrong time (it was a weekday). maybe the youth only show up on the weekends.
