yeah unsigned are really about opting to perform modular arithmetic, or for mapping hardware registers.

C is weakly typed, the basic types are really not to maintain invariants or detect their violation

I worked in the same period for a finnish startup (iobox.fi) that ended up being acquired by telefonica.

Our mobile and web portal was made of j2ee services producing XML which were then transformed by XSLT into HTML or WAP

At the time it blew me away that they expected web designers to work in an esoteric language like that

But it was also nicely separated

if you want to know, it's a fork of google gyp, which is a C/C++ project/build system generator. I.e. it's a bit similar to CMAKE, a tool to describe native code projects and what needs to be built in order to make executables and dlls.

It's a python codebase, largely abandoned by google. They used to use it for building Chrome.
