Yep, out of precaution i've never used their sync infrastructure, which I guess was reasonably cheap to run, but the moment you add LLMs to the mix it is obvious that they are in for the free VC money and are soon going to need a lot of investment to keep the lights on.

About the "ai", the announcement is very vague. Is this incorporating a local model on device, something running on your infrastructure or a third party model like Claude? Because to me nowadays adding AI on anything usually means higher running costs equals sooner or latter enshittification.

It is happening already, recently Brazilian woman living in Italy was scammed thinking she was having an online relationship with Brazilian tiktoker, the scammers created a fake profile and were sending her audio messages with the voice of said tiktoker cloned via AI. She sent the scammers a lot of money for the wedding but when she arrived in Brazil discovered the con.

I know that hn is heavily populated by people from the USA, that the author is dutch but a non-english language would be... every other language beside English.

Commenting on the actual text, his solution for the cedilla is awkward and is one of the first things I disable on any computer, because it is a extremely common letter in portuguese.

People keep reinventing LaTeX, but poorly. Most of the issues described have already been solved by it at least 20 years ago, especially the semantics part. The tooling is mature, well understood and supported on all operating systems.

It is common misconception, but evolution does not happen at the individual level, but on populations, so a single individual not reproducing is irrelevant, as long as the local population carrying the same genes do successfully reproduce.

It is supremely annoying when i ask in a group if someone has experience with a tool or system and some idiot copies my question into some LLM and paste the answer. I can use the LLM just like anyone, if i'm asking for EXPERIENCE it is because I want the opinion of a human who actually had to deal with stuff like corner cases.

I had a friend, already over 40 have a similar episode, mixing a conspiracy belief triggered by searching for patterns in data, incorrectly treated bipolar disorder and a HUGE amount of cocaine. It was not schizophrenia, but a long episode of mania with delusions of grandeur, where he was the main character on a erotic-thriller-like story.
