I'm coming out of the period where my kids need less help and it's really great working on projects alongside my kids making stuff. I try to model working on my projects as something that is enjoyable to me and that I am working over a long time period.

My hometown had an independent video rental store called "Video Rentals".

The 1980s were a simpler time.

It really looks cool, but creating JUST a simple damn button is a nightmare. Tabs, layout, fine, but you just want a button. nope.

I use Slint and tried a bunch of the other frameworks and nothing worked as well in embedded and also as mac/linux apps. It really accelerated development to have it running as a mac app and then be able to deploy it on real hardware.

Fantastic!

I remember MECC was a big part of my childhood. That was a private/public company that made educational software. Most known for Oregon Trail, but they did a LOT of software for many types of computers.

Eventually capitalism caught up with it and it was bought out, pieced out, and destroyed.

It feels like software jobs will be moving more to Europe generally.

It is just the work ethic divide that is at issue. The staying power of San Francisco is that people may have been willing to work long hours for stock, but not even stock isn't worth enough these days.

I hope I can finally ask Siri to direct me to one of my contacts' address and actually find it. Siri basically can only make timers fwiw.

I would use a mac of the Beige G3 variety. They still had SCSI ports and can run a bunch of OSes. I'd dump to a BlueSCSI or make a network disk that can be read by a newer OS or host a share from a newer computer to dump onto (SMB, AFP).

Another good candidate for hardware is a Lombard Powerbook. Otherwise you'll need an adapter.

I love my EV, but for anything that needs the range they should have a super-efficient gas or diesel engine that can charge the batteries? It could be a much less complex engine.

That said, they big car makers only chased the government incentives, which was a great reason to have them.

Electric everything is the future. It is obvious (e.g. heat pumps, EVs).

The top view is much more damning. No way this guy was in any danger and he used deadly force without any indication or need.

I would like to see murder charges presented. I suspect nothing will happen.
