I didn't realise bang operators work even when DuckDuckGo itself is down.

That's pretty neat, I don't need to change the search in the address bar, just add '!g' to every search to seamlessly redirect to Google until DuckDuckGo is back.

I use this as it's the default on Manjaro Sway. The interface is straightforward and (despite the general jankiness of Bluetooth) it's pretty reliable.

I get the same feeling; every time a museum or archive expands its collection, it's taking on a long-term responsibility for those objects.

Put your discovered objects in a warehouse, now their survival is conditional on the continued funding of whatever institution owns the building. If the items are in fancy climate-controlled storage units, who will maintain the air conditioning and pay the electricity bill for the next ten, fifty, or a hundred years?

I'm sure people who work at archives have to think about these questions on time-scales much longer than those offered by grants or rounds of charity fundraising.

I wasn't aware you needed a license to use the DVD format. Does this deprecation of the licensing scheme suggest any opportunities for creative uses of DVD?

Another comparison with air safety, the disaster risk threshold is high enough to ground vehicles with suspected faults or flaws.

In this case two self-driving cars crashed into another road vehicle because they failed to recognise (in time) which direction it was moving. Waymo should be commended for having voluntarily issued a software recall, but this problem is severe enough that the decision shouldn't really be up to Waymo's good judgement.

I could see myself using this, subtitling things is extremely time consuming and there aren't that many tools which will automate it for you. It looks pretty straightforward to use - just two steps to install (if you already have FFMpeg and Python), and then one command to run the script. Well done!

This describes more or less how I use calendar reminders. Typically, if I see a trailer for a film that looks good, I make a reminder several months ahead to check it out. I don't think of these as 'tasks to be completed', but more like 'notes to my future self'.

Yes, LTT is popular enough to have contacts with YouTube who will help them recover. It's still scary to see a huge channel briefly blink out of existence, and people running less well-connected channels are probably looking at this situation with some anxiety.

A 'slow delivery' option is a great idea. There have definitely been a few times when I've ordered something and would've been totally happy for it to arrive any time within the next few weeks. At the same time, it would need a different kind of delivery service which isn't totally optimised around speedy delivery.
