I had to turn off adsense when every ad they were running was a deceptive green "download" button. It was a whack a mole to try and block them all and was a waste of effort.

this is a good point. Some of the ai companies are trying to hook cs students so they'll only know "dev" as a function of their products. First one's free as they say (the drug dealers).

This is where I landed too. At least in the js frameworks "wars" it was reading the docs and prototyping angular and react for free. To try and keep up with the latest AI tools you're expected to spend ~$1k / year.

somehow the ai bros are saying creating .md files is the real ingenuity, and couldn't be learned in say half a day. There's absolutely no rush to keep up with the latest code producing tools especially when they're all "pay to play".

I still like using it for quick references and autocomplete, boilerplate function. It's funny that text completion with tab is now seen as totally obsolete to some folks.

Code review is now a bit like Brandolini's law: "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it." You ultimately need a lot of buy in to spend more than 5 mins on something that took 5 seconds to produce.

I'm very patient with the ai-led porting projects since they're revealed with a big engagement splash on social media. Could it be durable? sure but I doubt anyone is in that much of a rush to migrate to a project built in a week either.

This resonates because nowadays popular developer culture is about how you need to spend $200/mo with a ronco 'set it and forget it' mindset as your AI swarm writes 100k lines of code overnight so you can post about it on twitter the next day.

Anyone questioning this methodology gets a 'enjoy being left behind' mantra akin to the 'have fun staying poor' of the crypto bro 5 years ago.
