I just want enough money to retire and write interesting open source software, but doing that in my 20s made me poor, so since then I am trying to speed run retirement so I can go back to it.
Sadly, while I find AI effective, I also find it's removed the craft and personal reward I get from open source. So I will instead grow potatoes.

It's interesting how many comments these days are like, "well of course".
Back in the day hackernews had some fire and resistance.
Too many tech workers decided to rollover for the government and that's why we are in this mess now.
This isn't an argument about law, it's about designing secure systems. And lazy engineers build lazy key escrow the government can exploit.

The best engineers I've had the pleasure of working with, are not anyone who would be recognised outside of the teams they've worked in.
I aim to be like them, high performers that get respect from their peers, but unknown to internet strangers.
Sometimes you get the rare exceptions of people who don't chase fame but become known for their work due to other people talking about it.

I would pay good money for win7 resurrection.
I'm usually a cross OS/platform guy. Using each for what they are good at. But lately Win11 has just felt like it's not bringing anything to the table except pain. Especially with Steam making linux so attractive for gaming lately.
