FreeCAD is great for small things but any time I tried a complex model I get performance issues, lock ups and crashes pretty consistently. There are still a lot of hard edges.
I switched to Solid Edge free community edition, much more stable and the workflow is less bespoke.

I just built a new NAS using a raspberry pi5 and radxa SSD expansion hat, using openmediavault on the software side. Fairly painless setup, the kit is barebones but I 3d printed a custom case.
It is surprisingly good! 16gb of RAM so you can host all sorts of goodies, and you arent locked into vendor software. Its also extremely cheap to setup, the SSDs end up being the largest expense.
It does all this while using about a quarter of the power my old Thecus NAS did.

Dell XPS 13 - died just out of warranty with probably 10 hours of usage. Giant waste of money.
Kobo eReader, think it was called a Sage? absolute garbage, worst eReader I have ever bought. Spent 10 months battling with support after constant issues, got a replacement and sold it immediately.

Even KitchenAid mixers are no longer as good as KitchenAid Mixers. They use plastic gears now and are generally overpriced junk.
When buying a mixer, look for Metal Gearing. Avoid plastic gearing and belt drives.
For an example of a good quality metal geared mixer that is well constructed, check out Breville.

I thought the same, that it could be used to either mint new coins or test existing coins were the correct dimensions.
My next thought was that each side held a face-plate, maybe painted wood, that could be pressed in to the face, the knobs would help there. The holes underneath the panels could have been used to just make it weigh less, which could explain the differences in hole sizes found.
