Insanity, a person in their free time, out of the working hours discover a bug, doesn't summit it immediately, the google engineers proceed to call it 'an apple engineer' instead of saying the name of the person, this is politics 101.
Funny to see output of years of promoting politics inside a company.

They just keep adding support to what the market demands, adding FP8 to the H100s and 40xx series was such a good move, their tooling is top notch, like what is the alternative of rapids in amd? Their drivers are so stable that you can rely on them not crashing in projects that need to train for weeks & months, sxm is another big win of nvidia.
They also have their skin in the game and do a lot of research in ds.
A single 4090 can do 0.66 PFLOPS which is mind blowing to me, borderline having in your room a supercomputer of the 200xs for a few k$.
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/supercomputer-power-flops
Edit ----
Obviously biased towards enterprise users, no clue how good they are in the gaming market.

For me, being able to block/remove all the videos in the main page, shorts, the other people also..., the video recommendations and all the crap that Youtube have these days is so important.
I would pay a lot for a service that gives me the most useful answers instead of what is most likely to make me watch for longer, I know that is their business model to maximize view time to sell more adds but I wish they would sell me a subscription that allows me to customize the UI to show only a search bar, show only educational content when I use the search function and when I'm watching a video don't show me any recommendation or try to pull any tricks on me to spent more time in the platform, nothing more, I would gladly pay 50$ a month for this type of service on Youtube, until then uBlock origin to the rescue, my attention span and productivity is worth more than all the crap the Youtube team tries to pull.

Proton, the company that still in 2023 doesn't allow to cancel the auto renewal without losing access to the services you have already paid, the most anti-consumer thing I have seen in my life.
Here is how it works:
1. You pay for example for 2 years of access.
2. After a few months you decide to remove the auto renew and just use the remaining time of your subscription, your only option is to cancel your current subscription and lost access to any premium service you paid for, they give you credits for the remaining time of your subscription, that you can use if you contract other services.
So you are force to cancel the subscription before the renewal time and hope you don't forget to cancel it.
Run from this company.

365 is the cloud base suite of Microsoft Office, you can still use the Microsoft Office 2021 Professional or older versions.
365 is a nice way of collaborate at work, if you are a small business is a nice product, for the big companies this is just going to be more headache for their I.T department, so now instead of relying in the Microsoft servers to allocate and store the documents, they will use any other server from who knows what company and hosted who knows where, some will be hosted with e2ee including at rest while others will end up using some shit show of servers from a company owned by some dude from not so friendly countries.
I understand that privacy for companies is a big risk, but regulating it this way can easily end with a cobra effect.

It wasn't true even without the unique identifier, Apple can always correlated all the other data they sent to their servers to identified you.
Most people thing of anonymity like a boolean when is most like a gradient, for example, Tor not only needs onion routing, it also need to to present each user to the net alike, that is why they configure their version of firefox in a specific way and even a simple thing like changing the resolution of the window make you less anonymous. Even in perfect conditions you still vulnerable to correlation attacks and if you are the US, you can probably just use network flow data to deanonymize an user, obviously to do it the resources and implications would be enormous.
In the end is just a gradient of being anonymous to who? The ad conglomerate? A big state?
It would be literally impossible with a standard iphone to be anonymous to Apple, is just PR by Apple.

11 years for literally putting lives at risk due to medical fraud, forget the money part for a moment. Someone may have lost a love one because of her, maybe it was a few? Hundreds? Who knows. But we are over 8 billion people in this world, do we really need people like this ever having a second chance to life? Medical fraud should be life sentence, at most, give her the opportunity to work from prison for the rest of her life.
This type of people prey on the ingenuous and naive, nothing wrong with being ingenuous but for the rest of us, we should also call out the predators like Holmes and try to keep this predators out of society.

> People talk shit about office politics, but sometimes you need to read the room...
In my limited experience, most people have a kinda low self awareness, especially in the lower end of the food chain, the higher I go in the chain, the less naive people I meet. Why was he even worrying about a badly planned project? If your job is to code, just do that unless you are getting pay to be worried about the planning, which would be even a higher salary and at most have a very low key conversation about the problems with the superior of your manager, so when he gets fire for performing badly you can have more odds of getting his job.

It can totally not be a disadvantage for you, I'm not debating that, I even encourage others to explore Mastodon, there is probable a market for a product like Mastodon for a small subset of individuals. But that doesn't mean it isn't a disadvantage for most people.
In the context of this thread, the blog starts by justifying the authors choice by citing the laid off of the accessibility team, the alternative for the author is Mastodon which brings the complexity of selecting which instances you trust, even when you find a good instance, at some point the owners can shutdown it and you will need to migrate to another instance. If a rogue employee sent your messages to another person, they can be prosecuted, have fun trying to do that to the owner of the instance, yes, you can have your own instance which have a monetary/time cost. Using a commercial product? Oh I really hope you instance never angry the mob or they may go to your commercial provider to demand they drop you. Obviously this doesn't make the accessibility any worse /sarcasm.
Popular Mastodon instance?
* Moderation takes time, who is going to do that for free, everyday?
* Who is paying the infrastructure cost?
Mastodon
* Daily active users is 655k spread in multiples instances 1º
* Private owned instances, self moderate.
* User base of the extremes of the gaussian distribution, the extreme privacy oriented and the politically motivated.
* User base is a subset that will split into another few subsets, high tendency to form echo chambers.
* Difficult to scale, closed system with rapidly increasing entropy (no accountability, highly susceptible to the instance owner desires (affected by time))
* Hard to attract people with a big following social media since the user base is small and the opportunity to grow is very small but the leak of followers to other users with small following base is high. (High cost/Low return)
I love that Mastodon exist, that it brings to the market different types of social media experiences, at the end, the market (people) will choose what is the more efficient version.
I personally doesn't use Twitter or Mastodon, I use rss with a CA instance of nitter in a RSS reader to check what a few people in the data science space tweet and my personal opinion is that the author is motivated by his political beliefs instead of the accessibility or quality of the product Twitter.
Sources:
1º https://nitter.ca/joinmastodon/status/1588168057893318657#m

Just wait until people start realizing the privacy problems that Mastodon have unless you make your own instance.
You don't like the new twitter moderation? oh wellcome to Mastodon where a 12 year old can be a moderator of a instance. Global guidelines for moderation? No in Mastodon since each instance can have their own rules, 10/10 if you love being in echo chambers.
Created your account in a random instance? oh well maybe all your messages end in doxbin because the 14 year old who made the instance have access to all your messages.
