Aren’t the models just software ? You could ban them in say high assurance environments like to be FedRAMP certified you wouldn’t be allowed to use them.
There is no great firewall so banning their import via the Internet is impossible

My point is adding stuff to an existing version doesn’t make it immutable like it should such as Maven-style

Doesn’t that sound bizarre? I have never heard of such a thing. The builds should be immutable

This seems like common sense configuration management 101. If I download v1.2 and it’s been published then it should be considered released and not modifiable. With exceptions for ‘dev’ releases of course. I have never published anything on PyPI but I would expect there is a publish button and finalize (?) optional button that if not checked after 14 days makes it final ?

You wrote three paragraphs and never once answered “what do you propose I do?” because there isn’t an answer, just a vibe you wanted to deliver.
Congrats on discovering that people claim credit collectively and blame individually. That’s not a uniquely American sin, that’s every human tribe since forever and you just gave it a paragraph structure and called it a diagnosis.

Interesting to see how Google solves this in their UI because this isn’t a new problem: In 2017, they were fined for a similar problem with Shopping and the auction house concept to compete for placement was heavily scrutinized.
It’s all sort of intertwined now.

Already did, a few comments up. Happy to go through specific objections again if useful. This particular comment was about thread-level dynamics, not a verdict on any one objection’s merit.

I see what you are saying. My comment is rooted in the fact that different people are foregrounding different objections to Anthropic/Bun, and taken together it looks like whatever launches, someone will find a reason to be upset

Please re read your original comment. AI rewrite is one thing and objecting to FOSS/non FOSS is a new argument, anti-Anthropic etc is moving the goal posts. The main argument was the blanket rewrite to Rust using Claude.
Now, /you/ are trying to move the goalposts into an entirely different argument.
Very likely it’s just anti Anthropic altogether.
Like I said, a meme.
Anthropic hasn’t done anything wrong but if they move a single inch then people will complain. Perhaps it is just a preview version?

You can; it feels contrived and very social justice warrior/anti Anthropic (which on HN is in of itself almost a meme now). The main reason was because of the blanket AI move which I could understand.

> The objection isn’t to the language. It’s to Claude using a version of Bun that is not available to us.
I was responding to your GP comment. For weeks, it was uproar over the blanket AI move to Rust and now it’s this reason. That’s why I said the goalposts are being moved.
