Personally I think 2000s Micro$oft would be disappointed that 2026 Microslop is hosting user communities on a 3rd party platform owned other another company rather than using their own competitor.

It's not uncommon for a Distro to point NetworkManager or whoever to check for connectivity using their own servers, Arch does it themselves[0].

bitmap fonts are the only fonts where I can get crisp, sharp, and not blurry text. I don't have an expensive "Retina" style display.

I hope this can somehow improve the font situation. Even on a 1440p monitor, the fonts in Zed are much blurrier than any other editor I've used. I Can't even use bitmap fonts like VSCode.

Same here, I was hoping to see it listed in the article. XMPP is close to being right there in being able to compete with Discord. It just needs a good client with Spaces support (XEP-0503), along side user roles with permissions, and server side voice channels.

The only one that sprouts to mind is it is currently more popular and has fancier mobile clients. Besides that, it's slower and more resource intensive.

So the author doesn't want to cough up the money to buy a VPN but will instead write a custom Tor client that is intentionally weak on anonymity so they can run their own exit node on a VPS they bought. Why not setup Wireguard and use the VPS as a VPN? More power to them, seems like they learned some things and are happy with the results, I just don't get it though.

To entice people who are fluent in said language, or those who are looking for something compiled and performant. If I see a project written in (java|type)script, I know to avoid it.

Am I alone in that I never have had an issue with performance with pre-commit? granted I don't work on projects the size of the Linux kernel, but I haven't had any complaints.
