The article is harsh for no reason. Pandas served us, for a lot of time and was the de-facto library for Data Scientists. It evolves. Polars was a rewrite following bets practices learnt while working with Pandas.

I do not understand the aggressiveness towards previous evolutionary steps. Who knows, may they come up with newer methods. I still use it. I also use DuckDB and Polars. DuckDB is more useful to me these days from either. Still Pandas has a place in my arsenal. Mostly because I know it better and I like it.

There is also libraries for doing type checking.

I believe the flood of AI articles drown the fact that data science is not dead.

I see a lot of work towards Geo-Data Science.

PostGIS was a first generation. Now we have GeoPandas, DuckDB Geoanalysis tools and Sedona DB.

IMDB data set is also up.

I think they need humans to recycle money They need humans to run the green economy as the Afro-americans in the south They need humans as a hunting sport, how to make them do what we need. Let's play with them. The AI is not viable as a business model. So they will use it as a tool for their purposes as long as they can.

Since I do not want to subscribe in the substack feed, here is what I see as a serious reason

1. Shipping costs 2. Nonfiction books are huge. Who will read these books like e.g. "The Elements of Statistical Learning" 3. Pedagogy collapsed and barrier to access has skyrocketed 4. LeanPub/Gumroad are alternative means of distribution 5. Bad presentation full or references, and show-off 6. They do not usually give solutions to every day problems

That is no good. Using AI to help search efficiently the literature will not impair our ability to think. This is actually good and will open new jobs to digitize (but also keep the original work), all the knowledge.

But this (if it is true) is really abominable and a show of force from the techno-feudalists.

This should stop. What is possible does not mean it should be implemented.
