I still generally avoid browser-specific hacks like these, aiming for lowest-common-denominator most-minimal HTML that still satisfies most browsers. However, now and then there's just no avoiding it.

I am continuously in awe of the Web's decentralized and open nature that allows something like this to happen-- for one reasonably complex file/application to be compatible with 30 years of co-evolving client software written by many different developers and teams, much of it no longer supported.

Thank you so much for this amazing resource. One of my projects is a hyper-compatible framework that builds websites that span the compatibility spectrum from Netscape 3.x to today's browsers, and this is very helpful.

Just to help with the troubleshooting, I tried a few different browsers on Windows:

Google Chrome, Brave, Waterfox, Waterfox Classic, Firefox: error

qutebrowser: site works fine

Same day after I saw this story, I noticed a new unfamiliar system tray icon, and it was the installer for this thing! It hadn't installed yet, and I was able to remove it, but I guess I have to replace one of our house monitors now.

But it's not "his" problem or "my" problem, it's "our" mutual problem for "us" to figure out together, collaboratively, down to its root causes, which are yet unknown. (And in the future, to mitigate and prevent, using whatever means are available to us.)

I'm confused about how it is that because it hasn't happened to you or anyone you know, it's my personal problem that closed-source software that I have no capability to modify is working slowly or failing to work at all?

The main things that are slow are loading the app and opening the app, loading the messages, and receiving the messages. On my phone, this is much slower than Telegram, and on my computer, the WhatsApp program doesn't even work have the time -- it just gets stuck in the loading process.

Signal is not as bad, but can still take a minute or two to update everything on my computer. The phone app is better.

Besides all the other factors mentioned, which I think are all valid, there's also indoor air pollution from things like aerosol sprays, cleaning products, fragrance, creams, soaps, other products.

Validate it yourself with hashing and PKI. Yes, it needs bootstrapping, just like centralized HTTPS needs bootstrapping.
