If you hate travelling, in what way does doing that for 17 years sound like fun? Some people just do not like traveling and living out of a suitcase or backpack. Others, do. If you see being at a corporation as soul sucking, then don't, but I imagine that if you're the CEO of the corporation, it's a different story than if you're a drone, and see yourself as one. Retirement is great, you get to choose what to do. Some people choose to fuck off to the beach. Others choose to keep writing code, like Larry Finger. No one's gonna shame you for not being Larry Finger in your retirement, but we should celebrate the people who chose to do good works.

No it isn't. The best LLM software engineering language hasn't been invented yet. As a human, spaghetti code sucks and goto's are considered harmful. I can't reason above what my puny human brain can keep in context. Phone numbers are hard to remember, and that's only 7-10 digits. LLMs have no such problems, and as such, should be able to write more performant code given fewer constraints. Given a problem statement, an LLM could "hand" optimize assembly for the specific CPU the code is to run on, eg that exact Intel CPU's speculative decoder pipeline length.

If you believe in the notion that the technology will improve to the point of being able to replace a human employee, the increase in demand is going to come from businesses that choose AI employees over human ones. Even if the AI employee costs more than human one, it's like a car vs a horse. The AI employee doesn't get sick, doesn't get into trouble with HR for sexual harassment, never comes into work hung over. You can hire 100 AI employees for a week and them fire them the next and not feel bad about it.

Whether this comes to pass is anyone's guess, but that's the theory.
