With a solar plant I assume they can turn it on before it's 100% done right? Harder to do phases with a coal boiler.

Whats the average time it takes to build a solar plant versus a coal one? I would assume solar is a lot faster to first production?

Orignal Star Trek did an episode on this - "A Taste of Armageddon". The war was a video game - fought on a computer. But if the virtual bombs hit your area, you were declared dead and had to a report to a disintegration chamber. If you can get past the dated special effects - the concept is the same.

The author mentions Packard-Bell which always just had the whiff of 2 legit companies and was enough to trick uninformed shoppers at Walmart that they were buying high end. Remember in 1999 if you didn't read Computer Shopper the only thing you knew about PCs was what you saw in TV ads.

Railroads, e-commerce, and AI - all useful, all were (or may be) credit/stock bubbles. Railroads however have a much better depreciation schedule than GPUs.

Am I reading this correctly? Existing routers in houses can only get firmware updates until the end of March 2027 then they need some kind of approval? How is that more secure?

Does anyone know why the fire truck was driving across the runway in the first place? Was it a patrol, repositioning the truck, or was there an active incident that they were responding to? Seems like reducing the number of times you have to drive across an active runway is in general a good thing, but perhaps at an airport this old this is the only way to get from A to B.

My local Walmart has these and I have a hard time reading them. They are not bright and with the glare from the ceiling lights they are hard to read especially lower on the shelf. At least at my store they are not nearly as bright as what it shown in the article, more like a kindle display without the backlight on.

I think any company with some motivated developers and a budget for h/w or cloud could rebuild a good enough JIRA in a month. I don't see how Atlassian survives long term

This is a fascinating read but what do you do with this information? Is there a threshold at which you need to take the watch apart and fix something or is this just useful info to know about your watch?

You're willing to wash and re-use for one kid but not then to let the next one re-use? So does that mean the wash doesn't get the diaper clean? And if that's true, why re-use them at all for anyone?
