Not the parent, but: ChromeOS isn't what I'd call a web-based OS. It supports Android apps, and that's how you get a lot of things that don't have web versions. Not much different from how Ubuntu can run Chrome and also supports native apps.

Idk though, really seems like the "AI layoffs" are just corps shedding headcount bloat accumulated in 2020-23.

This is like how people keep claiming Zelda Ocarina of Time is just nostalgia, but I first played it in like 2014 (after playing the others) and immediately considered it the best Zelda game.

The model already has its own quality benchmarks elsewhere. The article is just about running the model on X hardware, so the remaining question is then how fast it is. Or does the output quality somehow depend on the hardware too?

Doesn't PgDog only have one proxy, or can you have multiple? I imagine they'd need to coordinate on sharding rules somehow.

I'm all for cryptocurrency as a way to fight both KYC and money-dilution, but it's still not user-friendly. Regular people need a way to clog the gears too.

"Effectively giving them the power to decide who can do business." well it's giving the government the power to decide who can do business. The banks and merchants already had that power, but now they have additional legal risk of doing business with whoever the govt doesn't like.

Ever since 2020, I've seen more stores that won't take cash, and refuse to go there on principle even if I was going to pay with card anyway.

IMEI is tied to the physical phone, Facetime is Apple-specific, idk what the webrtc option would be. I'm actually glad phone won as digital ID, not cause it's the best choice but because it could've been a lot worse.

I got ATT prepaid in January and still had to give my ID, but it was weirdly not upfront but later on when I was trying to actually activate the service. Not sure what the deal is.

I held onto a 2010 Mac mini server for like 11 years before retiring it due to hardware problems (blame the hot room). Time Machine is the only thing I can think of that was still relevant at the end, and even that you can do with any NAS supposedly. The macOS Server stuff was way eol, and anything worth keeping had better Linux equivalents.

I switched to MacPorts because of permission issues with brew, used it for years, then switched back after MacPorts inexplicably started wanting to install like 9000 packages just to install something small-ish like wget. Which is probably just as likely to happen with any other package manager but whatever.

That's a funny tantrum. It's barely even censorship cause the game isn't about speech. I can't think of a single reason any country besides the US should've allowed Pokémon Go to operate there, phoning location scans back home.
