When writing a spec, every single thing you make optional, you split the possible implementations into two incompatible groups. Do this enough times and you end up with your spec being meaningless.

I love Vivaldi, but it also uses Chromium. If an extension is not in the Chrome Web store Vivaldi will not be able to install it.

Firefox seems to be the only reasonably mainstream option for proper ad blocking.

As this is Hacker News the focus is on GrapheneOS. I think the background issue of Cop City and the hysterical over reaction of the state of Georgia and now the feds to the protestors deserves discussion as well.

The criminalization of activism (domestic terrorism, really?) does not bode well for freedom of Americans.

The author's proscriptions for the fertility crisis include

- permitting child labor (as long as it's in a local business)

- ending sex education

- denying student loans to women

- permitting hiring discrimination

Not sure how well such measures would fly with the general public.

This is not a left versus right issue. Maybe more of a NIMBY thing. Co-locating natural gas power plants along with the servers near residential neighborhoods has not helped. The stories of electricity rates rising because of data center demand also has not helped.

People are understandably concerned by changes that promise private profits and public risks.

The groundswell of opposition and anger amongst ordinary people runs more broadly than many in the tech industry understand.

I don't know how solid her arguments are. But this is the sort of content that is helping inform the opposition that is brewing across America and abroad.

Successful Chinese industries tend to be subsidized at the level of cities and regions. This creates fierce intra national rivalry that forces rapid evolution and excellence. Electric vehicles are an example.

Anything the federal government pumps money into tends not to do as well.
