I worked as CTO of two companies for about a year. I tended to work a full day for one company then a full day for the other to lessen the context switching. It was hard work, but it was fun and very beneficial to both organizations. You really do focus on editing (what projects matter, what solutions matter, which candidates do we offer, coaching w 1x1s) which has much more of an impact than IC work. In fact, the only issues I ever had were classic time x resource tradeoffs, since I so little time for IC work.

Anecdotally: I'm CTO at a custom apparel manufacturer. Demand plummeted for events and foot traffic at our customer's stores died, so nobody is buying high end suits. Our revenue is now 20% of what it was back in January. We got our PPP loans, so we kept everyone in the USA employed, but had to cut all salaries above $50k by 25%. And we will probably have to have a second round of cuts and have some layoffs in June.

Wealthy people pay for editors to remove misinformation from their feeds. And the country gets bifurcated with coastal elites having access to editors and flyover country ("Ameristan") has turned into a conspiracy plagued wasteland.

The information hierarchy is unclear because they did not use best practices in design. As the other commenters said, you have to read it like a book. A better site would have larger, bold headings with darker text than the body text. There would be more padding between the sections. There would be a jumbotron at the top that identifies the top 1-3 reasons for me to use this site, so I can understand in 5 seconds if I want this service and don't have to spend 3 minutes reading the entire text.

Definitely talk to the founders. Founders probably have no idea you are considering leaving and would be shocked if you leave without voicing your concerns. Founders ALWAYS want to talk with key employees who are considering leaving. You are unlikely to get compensated with what you deserve, but they can definitely create a better working environment for you. Even if things don't work out and you do leave, you'll walk out of things with a good reference and network from the founders because you left on good terms.

If you take a look at http://www.colourblindawareness.org/colour-blindness/ and see their examples of Deuteranopia, they are exactly what I see. When the app shows the Deuteranopia view, I think the extension modifies colors that aren't red and green.
