The way they've filled out the application surprises me.
There are questions that literally say as part of the question "Choose Yes or No", so they've answered "true"...
And Q165 is fun: "Is it likely that consumers will face significant risks if domain names in the TLD(s) in the application are abused?" Answer: "No"

While you're not wrong, I suspect that .lan sees more real world usage than .local
It may not be an official standard, but it does have some weight as a de-facto standard.
I've tried briefly to try and find some numbers to back that up, but can't find much beyond apple's bonjour vs consumer routers - although I've seen companies with AD domains using .lan as well. (Although, I've also seen companies using 1.0.0.0/8 for their internal addressing...)

It's more for portable equipment I believe, things like heart rate monitors and those things that control IV drip systems, and probably the beds/gurneys themselves as well.
I suspect it's less relevant for things that can't be moved. (Or are extremely heavy/difficult to move).

From my understanding of the article, it sounds like ChromeOS support is getting pared back for those devices, but the devices themselves should still be supported, albeit via a (planned but not yet in existence) migration path to GooglebookOS.
Although tbh, I've not really used either in anger, so I can't really comment on if that is a raw deal or not. (Beyond the usual dislike of change that will always be encountered).
So agreed, that sounds reasonable.

I suspect that the improvement in efficiency is small enough at the scale of an automotive power plant that it wouldn't be worth it.
Reading around suggests that in order to achieve decent efficiency from a gas turbine, you need quite a few supporting systems that only really make economic sense at larger scales (like the 10's of MW scales, not the 100's of kW).
(Although just from a fun technology angle I'd love to see a gas turbine in a car).

Most optical cabling setups I encounter these days tend to be made so that you just use a straight through (A-B) cable, and it generally just works.
Although it is super easy to just pop the individual fibres out of the clip holding them together and flip them round.
The biggest polarity issue I see are with mtp/mpo cassettes, especially with multiple spans, you always seem to need to cross something there.
