I just revisited this to make that exact comment.
I'm sympathetic to the mathematicians who are worried about the future of their field, but as an outsider I wonder if they couldn't learn from the go community's "recovery" after the introduction of an alien intelligence.

Somehow I’ve ended up making ceramics. I use OpenSCAD to turn 3D models into slices, laser cut templates from them, then use them to hand-cut and assemble the model. I’m not very good at it, which results in a hybrid look of machined and handcrafted I like.

I am thankful for the role McDonalds and other commercial third spaces play in the lives of many, especially poor Americans.
I'm also deeply sad that this is made necessary by insufficient social resources and poor land use. It's even nicer to have community centers and parks that can serve this purpose without the need for purchases.
It's also nice that they provide employment for cultures without apprenticeship opportunities but, again, a bit sad that it's necessary.
In summary: nationalize McDonalds! ;-)

We're working on it. Parking is being removed pretty quickly, one of the three major canal rings will go car-free soon. (And by 2030 we hope to allow only electric motors anywhere in the center, but that's driven by air quality rather than land use.)

For a few years now, every road construction project near my Amsterdam home has removed car lanes. Also parking. Usually the freed space goes to protected cycle paths, but sidewalks, trees, and playgrounds sometimes win some new space as well.
(N.b. there is a plan to add a lane to portions of the outer ring highway, so "more car lanes to reduce traffic" still has some advocates.)

The professor clearly responded to your "tuition dollars" concern, so I'm going to ignore A). But B) is an interesting question that I will assume is sincere.
"White Lives Matter" is likely to be controversial for two reasons. First, it misses the point of the Black Lives Matter slogan, as the professor addressed quite well. Scan his response for "focus and exclusion" for detail, there. Second, "White Lives Matter" does not stand alone as a statement in today's cultural context. No one could wear such a shirt and claim it was anything other than a counterpoint to "Black Lives Matter". Thus, in 2016, that counter-slogan comes with a very strong implication of "black lives don't matter." Which brings us to your more extreme case.
Wearing a shirt that proclaimed "black lives don't matter" could be seen as a wry commentary on American culture, if worn by a black student already known by their peers to be an activist for civil rights. Even then, the face value of that statement means it should be verboten.
And that face value is, I'm confident, what you mean by your question. I certainly hope that any university would indeed expel a student (after a warning) who insisted on making the statement that the lives of other people do not matter. The social purpose of universities is to improve society by increasing the knowledge and awareness of its members. "Other people don't matter" is an interesting stance to take for a socratic dialog around solipsism, but as a personal statement is clearly opposed to the mission of any respectable education institution.
Your questioning itself strongly suggests that you (like many) sense an invisible "only" before "black lives matter." I'd like to encourage you to re-read the "focus and exclusion" portion of the professor's response.

Funny that this thread has become about the Netherlands.
I moved to Amsterdam from Seattle last November, and have to say that I feel far less vulnerable here, information-wise. Perhaps if I compared the policies and behaviors of only the national governments, I would remember the US as the land of the free, but I prefer to take all levels of government and corporate power into account.

The simile to Microsoft's early (and, arguably, continued) tablet efforts is apt.
Google isn't a social network, and the products they offer us as users will be stronger if they don't pretend to be. But they've built their business on selling insights into our preferences, and Facebook has shown that a social network is the richest way to gather the data needed for that model.
I'd find it more hopeful if Page showed any signs of understanding that Facebook isn't about the social graph, but rather about communications. Google should be using Gmail as a fulcrum, rather than Google+.
