Still working on GhanaHousePlanner, we have integrated a robust cost estimator based on geometry of the house generated from the floorplans, this has allowed us to achieve very good results for the estimated cost by factoring in lots of inputs that would have been complex to handle since we generate the plans on the fly.
We are currently expanding the architectural drawings and structural analysis and also export formats. The goal is still to offer everyone in tropical countries the tools to understand their house construction before they go to meet professionals.
https://ghanahouseplanner.com/

Thanks for the feedback. I understand your point of view on revit but this solution is needed since it allows layman to have a good understanding of their house project before they commit. Users will come to you professionals with solid demands and floorplans that helps both parties converge on a professional solution without too much iteration.

Hi, I built Ghana House Planner https://ghanahouseplanner.com to help individual homeowners, builders, and DIYers in Ghana/Diaspora plan and estimate residential construction costs. The floor plans are built to comply with Ghana building codes.
It lets users:
- Select common house types (e.g., 2-bedroom traditional, luxury, etc)
- Customize materials (foundation, roofing, finishes, etc.) using up-to-date local pricing (updated monthly)
- See real-time cost breakdowns across categories (steel, electrical, plumbing…)
- Export or share estimates
- Manage different phases of construction
The rendering is built with React and is intentionally lightweight— the 3D viewer (currently under development).
The platform is free to use except for project management and using the LLM to define your house plans.
Current features include:
Region-aware material database (30+ items, sourced locally)
Modular cost estimator with category filters
Mobile-responsive UI (simple, fast, no bloat)
Next: job directory & marketplace (for local artisans & suppliers)
I would be happy to receive your feedback — especially on UX, scalability, or how tools like this could serve other regions. I believe this is also useful for Nigeria and potentially other tropical countries especially for the floorplans
https://ghanahouseplanner.com

Interesting and important point. Currently, I am not working with writers, I am first relying on stories from school, childhood, family and from friends in other countries. When I start to work with writers, they will be fully compensated. The current stories are common to anyone who grew up in the Africa especially rural.

Good point, the part of the LLM is to allow a user to insert their own context into the stories. For example, an anansi story, could be adapted to use names of people if that will help the user (example parent) give context (to a child).

Hi HN,
I've been working on AfriTales, a flutter based mobile app that brings African folktales into modern stories narrated episodes wrapped in a children and adult friendly UI player. The stories are created to cover north, south, west and east Africa. I think of it as a digital by-the-fire-side.
Why AfriTales:
Cultural relevance: There is a gap in culturally-rich audio-native storytelling apps for Africans, the diaspora and people interested in African stories.
Modern Influence: Modern UI makes the the app feel elegant and emotionally resonant.
Retention via structure: Episodes are short (2-5 minutes) and there are stories series for premium users.
MVP features include:
A launch landing page (https://afritales.org/) for early engagement and waitlist signups. I have currently sourced over 100 stories. Thanks to Google's Gemma 3 270M, users can generate stories with their own twist.
Freemium model: 3 free tales per day, plus premium subscription for unlimited access.
Robust Flutter structure: Architecture with TTS integration, and images for context.
I am starting in Ghana before expanding, and I'd love feedback from this community:
Would you (or your child) use an audio-based storytelling app with a strong regional cultural tie?
Suggestions for retention strategies or content formats that engage long-term users?
Thanks

I am working on MediaReduce https://mediareduce.com/, AI-powered media editing studios for videos, images and documents.
It has gone through several iterations over the last year. It was initially focused on file compression & editing but I have added video & image enhancement, background removal, smart video trim, video subtitles generation, dubbing, watermark removal, cropping, resizing, etc.
I'm continuing to fine-tune the performance and while enhancing my UI skills to polish the studios. I built a desktop version but currently released it for Linux (it's in beta), I plan to hopefully make the desktop version free.
I'm currently working with a few clients and using their feedback as guidance. Let me know your feedback if you use it.
