Never left. I use it when I get stuck on something or want to think through some ideas and check whats possible, not possible, why x path was chosen instead of y etc.

Not all monopolies are bad. "Natural Monopolies" exist. See the power grid. Even if there is some bad accident at best we will get something like the Grid Code.

I am not offended by whatever you believe. The brain believes/makes up all kinds of stories when facing the unpredictable. It has multiple layers devoted to predictions over different time horizons.
When those pedictions dont align it makes up story or breaks. No one created such a stupid system. We are just stuck with it.
The stories once upon a time did make a diff in solving coordination problem not the unpredictable problem. Today the chimp troupe has become so large and diverse, even the coordination problem is extremely hard to solve. Stories barely keep in sync a few thousand people in a frontier lab. This is natural -stories were always a bad hack.

Whistleblowing is not magic. Most of the time experienced people already know where the issues are, how long or what it takes to handle issues when everyone is not aligned etc And certain kinds of problems when you push or force people into the "right" position, when they arent ready, all sorts of new problems emerge. Cuz you know people will fake it, lie about it, cover their ass, find others to blame etc. Larger the org more unpredictable the consequences.

Obviously there is no control cuz how many people is anyone cable of controlling? Its not about control. Ask your mom what she does if she doesnt like what you do, say or think. Does she have a kill switch? Or did she find a better mechanism?
