The question is "how long has it been since the big bang." It's an important and relevant question for cosmology and physics. It isn't really a stance on the "beginning of time," which may have started long before this moment, but it is the start of the universe as far as physics is concerned.

Every solution in the space is bad and it's a wonder that any python software is maintainable and I think the only real answer is everyone gets fucked all the time with these bugs and rough edges
I say this as someone who has done an unfortunately large amount of work in the python packaging and python package distribution space and still get bitten every few months

My personal experience is that the bulk of the time these rewrites don't end up delivering the performance increases that people expect because they don't really understand what's making the prior system slow and don't develop good enough requirements
This is not saying you shouldn't, it doesn't really matter to me. But I think a lot of the time this is driven by engineers who feel like they need to do this rather than a financial decision to save money

You don't wanna get hacked but basically everyone gets hacked, so it's more of a question of "how well does your security and monitoring stand up to hacking?"
The big red flag here is that they didn't catch it for so long! How did they not notice?

I have the gaming version of this keyboard and it's great: https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/gaming-keyboards/g9...
It never drops off, it feels great to type on. The lighting and everything is configurable, and will even light up the hot keys you need for a specific game!
It's a great experience. I have no interest in a customizable keyboard, I just want one that works.

IMO you should never create a new service unless it serves an engineer reason instead of an organizational one. There's a lot of tools to help out monoliths, and a lot of ways to make it easier to shard the monolith as well.
Some services need it, like a backend intake platform of some sort that needs to have radically different performance characteristics than a user facing frontend. But for most services it just does not make a lot of sense to do this.

Yeah it's a really reactionary attitude! Most people who say it though aren't really able to articulate the why it matters. Because they clearly at the same time think lots of poverty related issues, like homelessness, are issues we need to solve.

I've used Nix. It solves an interesting problem. It is so complicated as to be unusable by someone who is just looking for a quick and simple solution to something like a virtual environment
There's a reason why, despite being almost 20 years old, Nix has at best a small cult following. It just doesn't solve the problems that most people are looking to solve, most other solutions are simply easier and in many ways better
