There’s very minimal state for a weather app. You should be able to sweep the whole thing pretty fast. You could probably statically allocate most of that state.

This would really help responsiveness. Keypress to pixel is a huge issue in these bloated frameworks which are running on top of bloated OS

GTK used to be considered the bloated option along with QT. My first Linux box had 128MB of ram and it was screaming fast.

Inflation from Covid spending is what got us. It was horrible before tarrifs.

Interest payment on public debt is already one of our biggest line items, top 2 or 3 in Canada. Federally and provincially. I believe it’s why interest rates are being kept low. We’re not doing good at all.

Our prime minister pretty much has full and complete control of the legislative and executive branches and even the appointment of judges. If you vote against your party then you can be kicked out. The whip is pretty absolute.

There are engineering standards where dynamic allocation and especially garbage collectors are banned. C is actually a perfectly approved language in these cases.

I remember a friend got one of the first mp3 players on the market. I think it was a Sony and could hold less than 10 highly compressed songs. Still, it was tiny and could fit in a pocket and didn’t skip!

Because China has stated they will take Taiwan, they have been threatening Philippines sovereignty too. Japan and others are on edge too. China currently has been behaving very adversarial and has a huge fraction of the minerals under their control that this article is posting about. I think sovereignty is a good thing. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Our society is pretty aligned that distribution is another kind of harm. Non-consented distribution of sexual images (eg: revenge porn) is also a crime. Children don’t need to be the ones to press charges in child porn unlike with adults. That’s a good thing.

I think there’s more to it than that. Claude uses a lot of confidence phrases, “I now have the full picture” when it absolutely should not use it. I think this is an actual problem but also a design feature from Anthropic.
