Vint and I have been corresponding on and off for years over email and text. He's incredible. A friend had his startup business about to fail because the domain was stolen by Chinese hackers; they had been to court, but the judgments were going to take forever to enforce after the courts sided in their favor. So, I asked Vint what we could do. He said he was sitting with the head of ICANN and would inform him. He is truly one of the greatest minds and most genuine people of our time. Thank you for every interaction, Vint. I hope you enjoy retirement.

Cognition... oh what a ride... We were customers when they acquired Windsurf, stopped offering customer support, raised prices, dismantled the brand, and raised prices again. We are not customers anymore. Benchmarks are not the only thing to worry about when you are using models.

If only we could buy 1TB of unified memory in a Mac for $1k-$2k in total hardware costs. Apple would basically be able to extinguish the entirety of the market cap for Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others all at once.

In 10 years, I hope my MacBook Pro can run today's frontier models and has 1TB of unified Memory.

I doubt my opinion will be well-received by all, but I hope that creators like the author of the Bobiverse will be able to, affordably and within their own capabilities, create new forms of content, such as AI-generated long-form content, like entire TV seasons, as the technology matures. That series is fantastic.

I still remember running Red Hat Linux when it was free and open source, before Red Hat Enterprise Linux, before Fedora, before CentOS, before RockyOS...

It's tough to build a business around a product that takes a lot of capital to build, and you offer for free to your competitors...

IMO, AI is still not there, but getting better quickly, and I'm excited about how it is going to unlock so much creative talent held back by an expensive system that requires a lot of labor to create content. I know someone who has been trying to raise money for a while to create a movie he wrote a script for. He's registered it with SAG-AFTRA. He's put on dinners. He's worked tirelessly to pull it together. He is an unknown quantity with a couple of roles in movies but no track record of making movies. I keep watching the progress, counting down the days until I can feed his script into a tool and show him a version of his vision come to life. I don't doubt he'd still rather do it with human talent the old school way, but, like tens of millions of other people on earth who have a creative vision and aren't named Bezos, Musk, or Gates, he may never succeed in raising, and I think some version of those visions becoming a reality is better than none. It's also like watching people who understand the problems in an industry work on tech tools by vibe coding solutions.

It also appears to have been spearheaded by Taki Udon, one guy who wanted something so he built it. We do indeed seem to be entering the golden age of FPGA.

If that 500-person call center is a BPO, they'd have trouble with today's data-heavy workloads. I do agree, though. I'm in an extreme minority when it comes to this much bandwidth in my home.

I put 5Gbit internet into my home (fiber) to build my startup. I'm processing terabytes of data. I have over 100TB of storage in my basement. I can regularly saturate my internet connection. That said, I remember well when a 1Gbit connection provided enough bandwidth for a 500-person call center for daily workloads (back about 10 years ago).

I am running Ubuntu as my desktop operating system. I would never do this without an LLM to do the work of keeping it functional for me. Today, Rise of Nations wouldn't launch. Never had that problem before. Seems the driver for 32-bit games and my Nvidia GPU weren't getting along after an update. Codex was called in and solved the problem for me in about 5 minutes. I just copied and pasted the Steam log and let it tell me what to do. Tadah.

I'm actually excited about the potential for a future where local agents help improve the operating system experience as I go by making changes based on my use case. All local, of course. I do not want to trust a cloud provider with my use cases/behavior on my computer so they can sell me more ads...

This is what a "bobcat" has become for UGV startups. It's a low tech proven platform that you can basically modify with attachments to do a lot of UGV work.
