why pay for something like that when you can just write an extremely simple addon that removes the shorts section from the homepage and anywhere on the site?

> “Our opportunity now is to take those 900 million users and turn them into high-compute users,” Simo said, according to a partial transcript of the meeting reviewed by CNBC. “We’ll do that by transforming ChatGPT into a productivity tool.”
Moloch strikes again!
(for those who don't yet get the reference https://slatestarcodex.com/2014/07/30/meditations-on-moloch/)
but seriously, we (or they) need to define what "productivity" actually is these days and in these contexts. is it to generate revenue for a company? is it to become a self-sufficient human? is it to educate the younger generations about what's true? is it to do science? is it to increase the efficiency of whatever task you're already doing (note that increasing efficiency would result in using less compute for the same operation lol)?
if we keep moving forward without sitting down and reorienting ourselves about a shared vision, given all the new things we now know since establishing our frameworks of social/economic organization, i fear that there will be a very bad outcome.

it's malware in the mind. it was happening before deep fakes was possible. news outlets and journalists have always had incentive to present extreme takes to get people angry, cause that sells. now we have tools that pretty much just accelerate and automate that process. it's interesting. it would be helpful to figure out how to prevent people (especially upcoming generations) from getting swept away by all this.

what i hate most about this (and the discussion happening in the comments), is that nobody is even defining "AI". "artificial intelligence" is not a technical term. what is mozzila doing exactly? what does it mean to put AI in the browser?

i have a pixel 4, and it looks like i might be stuck with this phone forever if things keep going in the same direction (hopefully they don't).
the pixel 4 isn't bad, but even on this i don't have the level of customization that i had back in the day with cyanogenmod etc. on my note 3 or epic 4g touch.
here are some requirements that i can think of:

    - not huge. small enough to use with 1 hand

    - able to root and install custom OS without too much difficulty/annoyance (the manufacturer doesn't actively try to stop you from modifying your own device)

    - able to use mint mobile

    - has a trackball (like the htc hero, that thing was fuckin awesome)

    - possibly some hardware buttons

literal shower-thought i had tonight as i was thinking about how at work we all don't like dealing with our helm charts because the syntax and structure ends up looking so ugly and it just feels wrong (not to mention the multiple different approaches of handling kubernetes resources in multiple different pipelines.
i try to see beyond any initial repulsion to weird looking code because i know that it may be super functional. but it got me thinking: what makes code beautiful? what makes code "high quality"? (other than that it results in a working, performant, and robust software program obviously).
so i'm curious -- can you show me the best code you've encountered? it can be a small snippet or it can be a "slice of a library" or an architecture etc. have you written anything yourself that you are super proud of?

fully automated with robots. the AI designs thousands of experiments and deploys them at scale. idk, i'm not an agriculture expert. it was just one example. what other possibilities are there?
electronics recycling, disassembling old computers to get the raw materials into a form that can be used again. we'll need programs to automate the production and testing and analysis of the robots that will recycle the components.
