Companies are adopting the 4 day work week, but the numbers are still super small, even in tech industry that are most open to these type of experiments. Nevertheless it's happening and it's a movement with a lot of supporters around the world. I put together a list of companies that actually offer a real 4-day workweek (4 days, 8 hours each), not just compressed schedules or seasonal 4 day week. I made sure each company explicitly mentions this benefit on their website or in their job ads.

Some companies claim to have a 4-day workweek but either don't stick with it after trials or end up having a 4.5-day week. I didn't include those.

Most of these companies are hiring right now through their career pages and many are fully remote.

There is a small trend among private companies, specifically in the tech sector, in moving to a 4 day week (the real 4 day week, 4x8hrs schedule) as they recognize the benefits for both sides, especially around retained productivity and better well-being, which then translates to better talent retention.

Advocates such as 4 Day Week Global consult companies on this topic and coordinate trials for them to test the waters or share results of surveys (available online) done with companies that already undertook such a trial. I've been watching this space for some time now and it's all definitely worth the attention.

A four-day workweek across all sectors is still years away; however, a good few private companies, especially those in the tech industry, have adopted it. 61 organizations participated. A year after the pilot, 54 of these organizations continue to implement the 4 day workweek. Among these, 31 organizations have decided to make the 4 day workweek a permanent arrangement. This means 89% of the participating organizations have continued with the policy in some form, and within this group, 51% have committed to the policy permanently.

That's why you see some companies offer 4 day week to their departments with creative roles and not task-oriented with easily measurable output such as warehouses, a good example is ThredUp company.

So far, the highest number of 4 day week companies in the private sector appears to be in the US, followed by the UK.
