A question for people who, like the author of this article, are genuinely surprised by these results: do these results change the way you think about what social interventions are feasible? Do they change the way you think about human nature?

I think the parent comment is asking what process or algorithm is there that would result in an array that was sometimes but not always a heap, and you'd want to do something based on whether the array was in fact a heap or not? Like in your example, what process do you have in mind that might result in a heap and might not?

UnitedHealth has 147 million customers, according to google. 20 billion / 147 million = $136
So they're making $136 dollars per customer in profit. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. 136 is much less than the crazy costs that people are complaining about.
Are people who like to quote these big numbers just not capable of critical thinking or is it just that they like the chance to rage at capitalism's supposed failings and they know their readers are too dumb to do division?

Sorry what supreme court ruling are you referring to? There was one batch that was deported that included Garcia, and Garcia has since been returned to face federal human trafficking charges in the US. There was another batch of venezuelans that was going to be deported to el salvador but was stopped by a Supreme court ruling on April 19th.
Perhaps you are referring to an appeals court ruling to that effect ("some deportees lacked criminal records and denied any meaningful judicial review or legal defense") ? This was overturned by the supreme court on the narrow grounds that the habeus petition should have been filed in TX, not judge shopping in DC.

Deportations that actually get people out of the EU seem to be extremely rare afaict.

What "mass" deportations in germany are you talking about? I can only find any news references to two flights, totaling ~100 people in the past year. Surely even a normal level of deportations, let alone "mass" deportations, would generate more deportations than this?
And you're really not sure this is less draconian than nazis?

The surveillance state in europe is being created to make it illegal to oppose mass immigration policies, because apparently the powers that be have realized that not enough people like mass immigration so it needs to be forced down everyone's throat with a combination of censorship, surveillance and party-banning. From your comment, it seems like you support mass immigration policies but also do not support censorship and surveillance (maybe only for practical reasons because it might eventually be used against things you like?). The question for you is: what if you couldn't choose? What if you could only have both or neither? Because that's whats on offer.
