The problem is the H1B visa is a lottery not a points based system. As someone who applied for an H1B 5 times and never got it, despite being highly skilled and having a PhD and a well paying job. The only way in was on an intern visa or an Einstein visa. Insane system

Looked after my son who has T1D for now 5 years, checked keytones maybe 20 times. Compared to blood glucose which we check look at every 5 minutes.

Maybe this is more for Type 2 or other diabetes, or for people prone to DKA. Or it is for people with a working pancreas who think looking at their blood sugars (and now keytones) tells them something like soothsayers reading tea leaves

In New Zealand we have private insurance and universal health care. Insurance kind of fills the gaps and usually has faster turn around time, like 1-day vs 1-month for an MRI. But like insulin is free for everyone, so nobody is going broke while dying here rationing it.

Of course it does, but only one country has to keep commissioning and ignoring studies to work out a group of 300million people can get better prices for everything if the incentive for the government is to decrease the price rather than increase it for their buddies

I'm pretty sure it isn't.

I actually proposed a cooldown for apt-get in my PhD thesis in 2013 and calculated its impact. Because the meta-data for the Ubuntu apt repository can be completely downloaded you can simulate the impact of a cooldown on how many less packages would be installed and it isn't zero.

There are always people in a community running beta version, or up to date versions. There will be less with a cool down, but then depending on how critical your system is you could adjust cooldown length

I volunteer at a weekly event where we consistently have over 400 people show up, and every week it is a struggle to get 20 necessary volunteers to run it.

When you ask, you do get volunteers, but there are a few awesome people who volunteer every week and love it. The event would absolutely be impossible without them.

Thank you to every person who volunteers, especially if you do it without asking.

I have seen this as the GoTH stack, Go Templ Htmx. Add sqlc to that gor GoTHs or GHosT stack. Love this combo, once you buy into "go generate ./..." as a build step you get so much.

I also add goverter for converting between sqlc models and template objects and return values. Like 50% of the boilerplate is generated and it makes type safety so nice

Brexit was sold as being positive for the economy. The proponents drove a bus around saying they would get 350 million back. It was largely advertised as a net positive for the economy

Some of these laws are like Gravity, inevitable things you can fight but will always exist e.g. increasing complexity. Some of them are laws that if you break people will yell at you or at least respect you less, e.g. leave it cleaner than when you found it.
