You can use this webpage on your phone to set an "atomic" clock.

I use it when the daylight saving time switch occurs as not all of my clocks will get the time every night. But this isn't so useful if you never can receive the signal.

I would eat the food at the store and then throw the trash away in the store's trash cans.

For things I didn't eat at the store I carried a small plastic bag to store my trash and when I got to my lodging I would throw it away. Also once you go inside the gates of a subway/train station there often seemed to be trash cans available.

I think they are saying if you use VyOs on Proxmox it gives you something equivalent to JunOs. I have no idea if that is true or not though.

Personally I would get a used Dell Optiplex / Lenovo ThinkCentre / HP EliteDesk. Either the "mini" / "micro" if you really want small. I am a fan of the SFF (Small Form Factor) size and the Dell Optiplex models. In particular the 70XX versions that offer Intel AMT / vPro for remote management.

I run a Proxmox server on my Dell Optiplex SFF 7070. With the SFF size you can add two low-profile PCIe cards, if desired. In my case I added a 10Gbit NIC.

The reason I would go with a used Dell / Lenovo / HP is that these tend to be well-built machines that run for years and years 24/7 in offices and proven to work well.

They haven't demanded that of me. I have 2FA with a Yubikey and a TOTP app.

I do the same thing. I'm not worried about them seeing my FQDNs.

I use the form of hostname.int.example.com for everything inside my home network. None of which is accessible to the outside world. I use LetsEncrypt with DNS validation to get the certificates.

I just watched a video where a person bought a £200 portable unit. He was using it in the UK and said he spent about £0.89 / day. And I'm assuming they won't use it for that many days a year.

The binary blob issue has been brought up since back in 2020. And since then very little real progress has happened from what I can tell.

I am not willing to use the software due to that issue. It just seems suspicious.
