No it’s not an ad hominem. It’s a clarification of your goal.

If your goal is to ship a product you would use the proven technique which is an array of structs. It’s shipped more AAA games than any other.

The ECS is a hobby project which solves problems unrelated to your goal. And because it was a side project you’re sitting on a pile of unknowns when you try to ship.

If the only motivation you can ascribe is making money or relection, it is circular. Wealthy people spend money to become politicians.

I completely disagree with this characterization. OOP teaches you a synthetic set of concepts (go4) and then asks you to solve problems in terms of that.

And the reason why the canonical bird as a subclass of animal doesn’t work, is it’s extremely difficult to divide the world into strict categories (are you Aristotle). So the solution is to organize virtually rather than around natural traits.

The most natural way to solve a programming problem is a big list of instructions with if/else and goto. It’s very learnable, even for young children.

That’s true. But in a business context I’ve found the opposite mindset is helpful. Anything which might be a constrain which is not contrary to your goal is probably a real constraint. Yes in theory you can rebuild X, Y, Z but what can we actually do in this initiative. I’ve taken to even taking social constraints as real and I communicate them to my management in that way.

Agreed. And making explicit that a trade off needs to be made tends to make people uncomfortable. They want to keep their options open.

Understanding this seems to be essential for leaders in general.

That’s not my experience. Every decision favors one use case or principle over another. The best design is when you have the vision and confidence to say what’s important for each those decisions and what you’re ok leaving out.

The existence of that desire is an untapped market opportunity.

And yes there are ranges of quality in almost every product you can think of from fishing rods, to furniture, to diapers. And theses brands clearly compete with cheaper options and still have strong businesses.

There is also a demographics angle to this. People who grew up poor and now are middle class tend to favor larger quantities of goods over quality. And this is exacerbated by immigration.

“corporate greed” is a signal to me of low quality commentary. The opening premise of Econ is that consumers want all the goods for free and producers want to give nothing in exchange for as much money as they can.

What is luck and why assume an equal weighting? Is it luck whether you accomplish your household chores?
